Re: Unsolved Mystery. Weird Z0 behavior around build perimet
The firmware fix didn't have an effect because the parameters in the software for your machine don't match the actual measurements of the machine. Polygonhell showed something I mentioned previously. On the same note, improper tower rotation will cause the low points between towers to be higher or ...

Re: Rostock Max V3 - requests, suggestions, etc.
Interesting comments regarding metric bolts. I have never had a problem locating metric bolts. Maybe not AS easy as standard, but usually almost as easy and within a few cents in price. I would think it would be easier for folks in the US to find metric bolts than it would be for anybody outside the ...

Re: Auto-Calibration - $100 Bounty and Bragging Rights
I think the 6 point star is insufficient to develop enough of a calibration routine. Perhaps a 13 point routine could help, center and 2 six point stars with one halfway between the outside star and the centerpoint. The height above the bed for the inside star compared to the vales for center and ...

"Weaving" requires you get underneath a previously printed layer, thus it wouldn't be possible.

Re: Part splits in the middle of printing
I think polygonhell hit it, your printing too cold. It can extrude at a low temp (relative temp) but does not have enough heat in it to weld itself to the next layer, hence the splits. Once you get the splits to stop that stress is going to go onto ripping ng your piece off the build plate, the ...

Re: Unsolved Mystery. Weird Z0 behavior around build perimet
Not sure if a touch probe or a dial indicator is more work/cost. I was thinking that a gcode of the 6 point star (plus center) could be run with a dial indicator and the values entered, the software compares the values and adjusts the settings. Do this 2 or 3 times and the errors should be taken ...

Re: Unsolved Mystery. Weird Z0 behavior around build perimet
OK, before I loose my thought here. The firmware likely considers the effector a single point, and the radius is the radius of the pivots on the cheapskates. It then uses geometry to determine where the cheapskates need to be to put the print head in a certain position. Arm length and radius can be ...

Re: Unsolved Mystery. Weird Z0 behavior around build perimet
See, to me that makes me think the radius of the upper circle is off. The error is roughly consistent between towers, it is always the same direction, and happens in the same spots. Is there two radius to define? There should be one for the effector and one for the cheepskates, unless a single point ...

Re: Unsolved Mystery. Weird Z0 behavior around build perimet
It sure did, but that's beside the point. We are recommending that the previously mentioned adjustment routine be implemented with a 6 point star instead of a quadrant point check.Jimustanguitar wrote:Check out page 1 of this thread. A 6 point test is where this all started.

Re: Unsolved Mystery. Weird Z0 behavior around build perimet
The previously mentioned alignment method sounds interesting, but wow what a time consuming process. Might I suggest that instead of using a quadrant based system to use a 6 point star instead since your adjusting 3 towers? This should allow you to see positive and negative changes in readings and ...

Re: Build surface...which one?
I suspect the next thing will be a microengraved surface to meet the requirements of all types of printed material. I suspect that soon a pattern and/or process will be developed that relies on mechanical adhesion rather than a chemical/mechanical. I can see it now, a material that expands a fair ...

Out of balance at high rpm is out of balance at low rpm. Try balancing your fan. Loosely mount your fan by one corner and put a piece of mirror/CD/tinfoil on the opposite side. Shine a laser pointer on the reflective object and watch the dot that hits the wall (preferably a fair distance away). Turn ...

Re: plan for acetone chamber. electrical/shopping advice nee
I certainly wouldn't use a printed piece as my pot for acetone, PLA or not.
I wonder if acetone in a vacuum chamber would have the same effect as heating the acetone. Once the pressure was returned into the chamber the acetone 'cloud' should condense quite quickly.

$650 Canon t4i + VisualSFM + Mesh software = 3d scanner, and you get a kick butt camera to use elsewhere.
You do need a fairly nice computer to do it with any sort of speed though.

Re: Discussion and Recommendations for a 24V Power Supply?
That would imply the bed was on full power at all times, but how do you change the temp of the bed now? Your trying to maintain a temp, that temp takes a certain amount of power and that doesn't change. To change that temp you vary the circuit to maintain the same amount of power being consumed to ...

Re: Discussion and Recommendations for a 24V Power Supply?
I think that's backwards. 480 watts into a heated bed would turn it into a cooking plate! You only need so much power to achieve a certain effect, double the volts and you should be able to half the current needed for any par ocular effect. In effect, your only going to need a certain amount of ...

Re: man sized
I have a few questions for you on this setup. How are you going to overcoming the inheirent problems with resolution when sizing up like this? The steppers have of course got a certain step size and when a larger arm such as this is leveraged it is going to move a larger amount than with a smaller ...

Re: 3D Printing in 3 Dimensions
I use Meshcam for 3d machining on my minimill. Once I get a printer, I'll have to try it. I also assume that with a delta printer, some one with the coding no how, could probably get the "effector" plate to follow the shape of the model, instead of staying parallel with the table. A delta printer ...

A lot of true words have been said in here. Still, Google, Apple, etc only know what we let them know. What I find worse than Google knowing what I let them know, is the gooberment telling (not asking) those companies to give up that info and offering the companies no recourse to fight it ...

Re: My first Smoothieboard prints, wow!
Not the power that we are after by going to servos. Then what is it your going after? That's the main advantage. Or, it boils down to power.... OK, let me clarify, a servo has a feedback loop through the encoder so if you miss steps the system has the feedback to take care of it. A stepper does not ...

Re: My first Smoothieboard prints, wow!
I can understand the desire for servo's vs steppers, but I think its wasted money. Steppers have proven to be a viable option, even in the metal working world, and the 3d printer world has SO much less force to deal with lost steps are far less likely. Heck, it is only this fact that delta robots ...
