Hey guys,
I am doing alot of modding to the effector. Adding lights, 2 more layer fans for a total of 3. And quick wire connectors for all. I would like to be able to quickly disconnect one effector platform and swap out to other types of heads and effectors. I have found some nice pre-wired JST connectors for the lights and fan, and now looking for a nice connector for the head.
As for the bowden tube, i guess ill just unscrew it from the head when I need to swap. Unless someone out there has found a way to quickly disconnect the tube.
Has anyone done this already? Can you post a picture of your quick swap setup? Id love to see some others doing this.

Re: Quick change print heads.
Fwiw I started out like that, a combination of JST style connectors and Deans for the heater, but I've since reversed the setup, the connectors are at the body of the max with long wires, rather than on the effector. I use a set of 4 pin connectors, so I can just remove one for each Hotend.
There were a couple of reasons for this, it was no more effort required to remove the Hotend, I could use better connectors, because the mass didn't matter, and because I'm using a kraken, it meant I didn't have to run all the wiring at the same time.

Tha'ts exactly what I've got running. JST connectors for everything and a Deans for the heaters. They work well.
As for the bowden tube, the connector that is slides into should be a push-to-release type. Just push on the blue (or white on the newer ones) top of the connector and it should release the tube for you.

I followed the lead in the Rostock build manual and bought some latching multipin connectors from Hansen Hobbies....Boundless wrote:I have found some nice pre-wired JST connectors for the lights and fan, and now looking for a nice connector for the head.

I don't have any photos, but I did put a 1x4 connector pair in the HotEnd wiring; two conductors for the resistors and two for the thermistor. It works like a charm and looks very neat & tidy. They also have little JST plugs and some larger multipin connectors for higher-current work.
EDIT: I'm considering a 1x6 connector, to replace the PEEK fan's JST pair and add the fan wiring into the main plug w/the heater & the thermistor pairs... Or a 2x4 set to keep all the wiring to the hot end tidy... Decisions, decisions... I'll wait til I swap in the E3Dv6 before I make that call.
