Some cool new PLAs
Some cool new PLAs
Just found out about this KickStarter for Polymaker. They are launching 3 new PLA materials, one is flexible, one looks like wood and the other is tougher than normal PLA. It looks very cool. I'm in for a 750gm roll of each of these. Take a look at their video.
It really is a brave new world going on around us.
cheers,
Michael

3D printed belt? Has anyone 3D printed a belt before? That alone seems like a game changer...
Re: Some cool new PLAs
Yes, I've seen a couple with NinjaFlex. But it is good too have options and a PLA based flexible material is a good option.

That NinjaFlex stuff looks awesome but is also twice the price as other filaments.

You know the old saying, "flex costs" - well, maybe I made that up!

Never do anything you don't want to have to explain to the paramedics.
Re: Some cool new PLAs
makergeeks has these filaments. I've tried their glow-in-the-dark ABS and their translucent blue PLA - both are pretty good. I was thinking about ordering some flex filament from them, because I want to make a phone case.
At any rate, any new, high quality filament manufacturer is worth supporting (IMO).

Nice find! I just went in for a roll of each, too.
Re: Some cool new PLAs
I really like where filaments are going. With multiple extruders and the right software we'll be able to print single parts that have tailored properties like rigidity, flex, etc. Very cool indeed.

Re: Some cool new PLAs
I noticed in the kickstarter campaign that they didn't recommend using the flexible PLA with a bowden tube extruder. I'd be curious to see if someone has success with a Max or Orion with the flexible PLA.
Re: Some cool new PLAs
I got a backer e-mail from this project over the weekend - they're showing off a new filament they've got in development which is designed for easily removable support materials. Looks pretty slick, and apparently, if you back the Kickstarter, you get first crack at the new material at discounted rates.
Re: Some cool new PLAs
I got that too, it looks pretty interesting. It is removed mechanically, not dissolved.
