alright I think I see my error... so I was trying to upload just the config.h file........ those files stay in the directory and the ino file compiles and uploads? I will set arduino and rep host back to the right number and see what comes of it. thanks for all the help.

as a side note is there things I need to change in the config? I read somewhere that the printer type needs changing... I have not changed the config .h file.

Has anyone tried adjusting flow rate via Repetier Host?

Post by gestalt73 »

Hey guys,

I was running the single perimeter calibration cylinder, and was making adjustments via the flow rate slider in Repetier Host.

I know the Max showed received the adjusted flow rate, it showed up on the display, but I noticed no change in the perimeter thickness, even going as high as 120%.

I'll try making the same adjustment via the lcd display tomorrow after this print finishes.

Of course, making a similar adjustment in KISSlicer worked as expected.

Can someone confirm?

still trying to work this out... I was looking for the eeprom mode when when I noriced under misc settings it shows baud rate at 115000 as opposed to the 250000 .... does that set the rate in.91 to that since it is a # define?

there seems to be a lot of stuff that needs to be defined in heated bed config it should have a true or false statement? or do you configure all this in host?

The EEPROM is initially loaded from the Configuration.h #defines. After that, changes to the EEPROM settings override the original #define vales UNTIL you change the #EEPROM_MODE value to force the Configuration.h values to load into the EEPROM.

thanks for that so each time I change the H file I need to change the eeprom number? also in the xyz movements section it shows everything set to zero should not there be a true/false statement

#define X_ENABLE_ON 0
#define Y_ENABLE_ON 0
#define Z_ENABLE_ON 0
#define DISABLE_X 0

#define Z_HOME_DIR 1
#define X_MAX_LENGTH 200
#define Y_MAX_LENGTH 200
#define Z_MAX_LENGTH 120
#define X_MIN_POS 0
#define Y_MIN_POS 0
#define Z_MIN_POS 0

I used the configurator tool for starting all of this. when I am in host and trying to use manual nothing moves. and the G codes and M codes do not work. can anyone post a complete working H file text so I can copy it? flaterics has stuff that is not in mine and some of the stuff in mine is not in flaterics. when I use the manual control I can see the movement commands change the mm on the lcd screen for the 3 axis so I know its getting to the rambo

it is not entirely true, unless I did not fully understand your sayin'.

Meaning when you load values in the EEPROM, then set EEPROM_MODE to 0, the configuration.h parameters prevail.
However, it does not reset the EEPROM, and if you set EEPROM_MODE back to 1, the EEPROM values still apply.

If you want to reset values in EEPROM, you must use the clearing program that you can find in Arduino's examples.
Go to Files > Examples > EEPROM > eeprom_clear and upload the program to the MAX.

After it's done, reload repetier, and you're good to go with cleared eeprom. From then, settings in the eeprom are the same as the settings from configuration.h, and you'll have the same behavior whereas you set EEPRM_MODE to 0 or 1, until you change an EEPROM value.

enggmaug, I did say "override" not "reset" - you are correct, setting the EEPROM_MODE value to another number does not reset the EEPROM, it simply overrides the values currently in the EEPROM with those in the Configuration.h file. Setting EEPROM_MODE to 0 disables using values stored in the EEPROM and ONLY uses those compiled in from the Configuration.h file. In this case you will not be able to set values in Repetier Host's EEPROM window since EEPROM has been disabled.

Tom, it is best to start with a documented Rostock Configuration.h file than use the configurator. I've worked through the configurator several times and it is a PIA!

I posted a completely commented Configuration.h file a few weeks ago - I think in this thread. It shows what you need to change and why and covers things like differences in RAMBos, micro steps and pulley teeth so you should be able to follow along.

cheers,
Mcihael

Thanks,

so here is my tale, got the rostock with .83 firmware. at this point in time the .91 was available on github not the .83, I ran the eeprom clear like was posted in the thread to have a clean install, arduino ide comes set at 250000 so the eeprom clear worked great. I then used the configurator with all the default settings. one of them is that the baud rate is set at 115000 while the manual by Geneb (awesome by the way) says to set at 250000 in repetier. also the .ino file when extracted into its folder is "hidden" you cannot see the extension or the file name when you set the folder to show details, at least this is what I discovered for my machine others may be different. the lcd did not get activated in the configurator and it set the board # to 33 (ramps) instead of 301 (rambo) so when the text file in the firmware says open arduino and run the .ino file, I expected it to work, but it did not. tons of time reading thru posts just to get to the point of being able to get the rambo to talk to repetier. the Eeprom is set to zero in the default config.h so nothing else I did helped until I figured that little gem out.... I basically did a line by line comparison with flaterics post and got closer but my Mcodes still do not work. I can manually move the steppers now though.

I think the wife is now jealous of my rostock, been spending too much time with it.

I am certain much of this is my fault for not having ANY experience with arduino or programming for that manner, other than CNC lathe and mill work. anyway its been a heck of a steep learning curve......

I would love to help with a firmware tutorial at some point.

It was this thread - the very first post that John made - that has the pre-configured Repetier .91 firmware for Rostock MAX. This is by far the easiest way to get started. If you have a newer MAX, this will work as-is. Those of us with RAMBo 1.1, 15 tooth pinions and/or Steve's Extruders will have to make some changes. I've gone through the Configuraiton.h file and commented everything that you need to be aware of and either accept or edit for your MAX. I also moved the EEPROM_MODE to the top of the file to make it easy to use, I hated digging/searching the file for it. I've attached a copy of the file, simply download it and replace it in the copy of Repetier .91 you downloaded from the first post on this thread. Or, here it is to peruse:

For easy configuration, the default settings enable parameter storage in EEPROM.
This means, after the first upload many variables can only be changed using the special
M commands as described in the documentation. Changing these values in the configuration.h
file has no effect. Parameters overriden by EEPROM settings are calibartion values, extruder
values except thermistor tables and some other parameter likely to change during usage
like advance steps or ops mode.
To override EEPROM settings with config settings, set EEPROM_MODE 0

There are many different thermistors, which can be combined with different resistors. This result
in unpredictable number of tables. As a resolution, the user can define one table here, that can
be used as type 5 for thermister type in extruder/heated bed definition. Make sure, the number of entries
matches the value in NUM_TEMPS_USERTHERMISTOR0. If you span definition over multiple lines, make sure to end
each line, except the last, with a backslash. The table format is {{adc1,temp1},{adc2,temp2}...} with
increasing adc values. For more informations, read
http://hydraraptor.blogspot.com/2007/10/measuring-temperature-easy-way.html

If you have a sprinter temperature table, you have to multiply the first value with 4 and the second with 8.
This firmware works with increased precision, so the value reads go from 0 to 4095 and the temperature is
temperature*8.

/** If defined, creates a thermistor table at startup.

If you don't feel like computing the table on your own, you can use this generic method. It is
a simple approximation which may be not as accurate as a good table computed from the reference
values in the datasheet. You can increase precision if you use a temperature/resistance for
R0/T0, which is near your operating temperature. This will reduce precision for lower temperatures,
which are not realy important. The resistors must fit the following schematic:
@code
VREF ---- R2 ---+--- Termistor ---+-- GND
                |                 |
                +------ R1 -------+

                +---- Capacitor --+
                |
                V measured
@endcode

If you don't have R1, set it to 0.
The capacitor is for reducing noise from long thermistor cable. If you don't have one, it's OK.

The jerk determines your start speed and the maximum speed at the join of two segments.
Its unit is mm/s. If the printer is standing still, the start speed is jerk/2. At the

Examples:
For all examples jerk is assumed as 40.

Segment 2: vx = 0, vy = 50
v_diff = sqrt((50-0)^2+(0-50)^2) = 70.71

Segment 2: vx = 35.36, vy = 35.36

Yaaa finally got the max updated to 091 thank you Mhackney for the file, it took me hour to remember how to get into the rambo but it now shows 091 on lcd screen. i do however have a couple ??'s
1. i changed the eeprom to 0 and uploaded and power cycled the rambo do i need to go back in and change the eeprom back to the 2 you had in file or 1.
2. if i need to change the convex issue again do i again change eeprom to 0 and then back again .
3. I notice no one asked this that i can find, but when one calibrates how does the heated bed effect things if one is doing PLA vs ABS and bed temp is not that high ( will the concave/convex changed due to the different bed temp and calibration)
4 Calibration will the head and bed need to be re-calibrated as well as towers.

i think that is all for now
thks

1) When you set EEPROM_MODE to 0 it disables using the EEPROM so you can not change settings in Repetier Host. Changing it to 1 will enable using the EEPROM. Then, if you leave it set to 1 and upload the firmware again, it will not overwrte the EEPROM values. If you want to overwrite the EEPROM values, change the EEPROM_MODE to some other number. I usually just increment it by 1, that's why you see a 2 there - I had originally had it set to 1 and then wanted to overwrite the EEPROM.

2) I would recommend setting the EEPROM_MODE to 1 to enable the EEPROM for editing from Repetier host, that saves a lot of time since you do not have to recompile and upload the firmware to make simple changes like this. If you make the change in Repetier host EEPROM edit window, do not change the EEPROM_MODE value or it will overwrite your values - UNLESS you transferred those to Configuration.h to capture them.

3) Calibrate with the bed at the highest temperature you plan to use it, for me that is 90°C. There will be minimal difference between 60° and 90° C from a calibration perspective. And, if you have glass on your Onyx, it really isn't going to be a problem.

4) With updating to .91 I found I had to recalibrate delta radius (DELTA_RADIUS_CORRECTION X, Y and Z) and MAX_LENGTH , Y and Z values.

Hope that helps!

Quick note - if you are upgrading form an earlier Repetier firmware to .91 you should run the utility from Arduino to actually CLEAR/RESET the EEPROM. The first few posts of this thread tell how to do that. Run that utility first, then compile and upload the Repetier firmware with EEPROM_MODE set to 1, then calibrate.

i followed Johns #1post of clear eeprom setting then did yours,
when i connect to the printer through REP host it says connected but i get no response via manual movement, i do get whaty i think is upside down movement of all 3 towers via LCD screen of (home towers ) it sends them all down into bed.??
looking back thru thread to see how fixed.

Odd, I need to think about that

What firmware were you running before and where did you get it? I assume you had correct movement before?

ok found the upside down issue pg3 in thread and flipped it and now is right side up but scripts don't work anymore so i will re do all configs and calibrations and see what i get i assume the extruder will need flipped also but will wait till i heat it up tomorrow.

was running .083 from seeme Steve installed for me before he sent kit. i have been running since Oct 2013 but had issue since Nov challenge so i figured might as well start over, i just might get my old head to learn something new and keep it in their.

now when i home all towers via lcd they go up

Ok, so I had the stalled print issue with my 0.91. I just finished my build earlier this week, so I was printing an adapter in order to install my E3D hot end as well as the cable management dowel holders. I had the G-code on my SD card, so it wasn't a USB gremlin (since my repetier setup is on a Macbook).

First time I printed, it decided to choke out about 2 layers in. The only out of the ordinary thing was that I was trying to crank my bed temp up to 100C (printing with ABS) - I'm wondering if I had a power glitch - I started the print at 70C and decided to try and ramp it.

Second time, I decided to leave the bed at 70C so it wasn't trying to pull at 100% power all the time. Made it through the bed clips and the hot end mount, but I also had some spacers printing - it died a few mm shy of their final height. Interestingly, when I power-cycled it, the run-time and filament counters had never updated from the prior print. Wondering if I've got some EEPROM issues? I'm guessing that the board came pre-loaded with the older version, although one of the very first things I did after power up checks was do the 0.91 upgrade.

Plan #1: flush the EEPROM and reload it tonight.
Plan #2: ordered a 24V power supply and DC/DC SSR to run the bed so I can get as hot as I want without stressing the other power supply.

Also, it would be nice to at least have manual extruder control on the LCD panel so I can back off filament after a run and/or purge the nozzle before starting.

Re: Repetier 091 for Rostock MAX now available

We figured it out last night on the phone - his steppers are wired opposite ours. He did follow the wiring instructions in Gene's manual but I've observed that some steppers from the same manufacturer have been different. In any case, that is what was going on and his earlier Configuration.h file was configured to account for this.

Thanks for getting him working. I know what it is like to provide phone support and I find it a lot better than trying to do it via forum.
Using your personal time to help others is appreciated.
