MAX v2 with Duet upgrade

Post by Johncoffee »

I have upgraded my Rostock MAX v2 with the following things:

- Duet Wifi 1.04
- 7" Display
- 3D design & printed housing for the Duet board & display
- E3D hot end
- Bed leveling sensor BL-Touch (like)
- Magnetic Flex plate
- ø300mm x 6mm Aluminum plate
- New effector plate to accommodate E3D hot end and BL touch sensor
- "Flying extruder" on top to eliminate noise of the extruder motor via the wooden support etc.

Conclusion: Prints super-quiet and like a champ, bed leveling and mesh view measurement is awesome.

If anyone is interesting in details, I can post the 3D files for the Duet housing / extruder adapter & effector plate.

Nicely done! Did you put the Duet in the base or in the top?

Thanks Geneb.
It's in the base. The display housing and the parts behind it were designed in Fusion 360.

I'd be tempted to use a Smart Effector instead of the bltouch. The strain gauge may be more accurate and won't require all the extra plastic for mounting, thus would decrease the effector mass. It might be more expensive than the bltouch though. 713maker.com sells an adapter plate that will allow you to use the Smart Effector with the ball joint arms.

Sorry for my late reply Geneb. I haven't been in the forum lately.

This is an interesting thought.

So I would need:

1. Due smart effector adapter (to mount the Duet smart effector)
2. Duet smart effector

I'm not sure about the ball cups. They seem not be included according

https://713maker.com/rostock/duet-smart ... or-adaptor

but they write, "All needed hardware is included for attaching the adaptor to the Duet smart effector and the ball cup arms to the adaptor."

I'm lost.... :D

Well the ball cups are on the ends of the arms you already have. :) You'd remove the "bar bell" ball assemblies from your old effector platform and transfer them on to the 713Maker plate.

The "ball cups" are the white plastic parts inside the red rectangle I guess. So that will be fine.

Recap - I need:

1. Adapter plate from maker713
2. Duet smart effector
3. E3D HotEnd --> which I already have
4. Ball cups. --> which I already have

Do you use the Duet smart effector ?

I don't use the Smart Effector. My two v1 -> Duet upgrades use FSRs. The Smart Effector wasn't a thing when I did those updates.

Ahh. Ok. Thanks for your note back.

Do you use other 3D printers than the 2 v1's ?

Hi Guys, I am a few years late to the conversation, but it is very interesting. I have a question for anyone who can answer. Where would I be able to find firmware for this controller to work with my Max V2?
