Simplify 3D Profile, New Nozzle, and Lots of Experimentation

Post by themitch22 »

I have been messing with the Simplify 3D profile for the Eris and I think I got the best one so far. It's all thanks to the new nozzle that John told me about at MRRF, apparently they machined it with a better profile so it has way less back pressure and requires less heat to prevent under extruding at lower temps.

Removed the old nozzle it was really on there, I couldn't get it off because the wrench I used wicked away the heat too quickly, I finally got it off with vice grips (I know, I know, I didn't have the right tools for the job) I found out it's a 1/4" hex and not metric like the E3D nozzles.

I had this happen with Atomic gold PLA when doing test prints, I have no clue how that happened. I had to pretty much take the whole extruder apart to fix it, I also cleaned the threads of the hobbed gear:

I used an Ikea Jansjo LED lamp and mounted a Pi Zero W/Pi Cam V2 on it to use for OctoPrint and it works amazingly.

You can do a cool time lapse like this one:

I ran the Eris off a 12v 8ah SLA battery just for fun and it worked except it couldn't source enough to keep the temps higher than 200C

I did fine tuning with Proto-pasta aromatic coffee PLA. This creepy teeth-rimmed cup:

And did a two part fidget spiral (Devin from Make Anything):

This is Inland Silver PLA at 205C. Probably the least amount of stringing I've gotten so far.

I have attached the FFF file for my Simplify3D profile using the new style 0.4mm nozzle. Please try it and contribute. It uses the same start gcode JETGUY and JAT.MN created to create a starting blob.
