Feeling Pretty Good About DropLit Prints

Post by jlmccuan »

Today marks day 6 with my DropLit and I am pretty happy with the results so far. Don't get me wrong, there is lots of fine tuning left, but after playing last night until 4:30am, I got a quick nap and ran this print.

Feedback, please!

Took the weekend off to work at my real gig. Got in some new resin. This print is with the 3DInk.com amber. Changed a few settings to get it worked in. This stuff is fast.

I looked close and there was something in the center.

It's the 5/16" bolt I was printing and forgot to take out of the scene in Creation Workshop. Pretty cool. Those 0.100mm layer lines are pretty rugged zoomed in that close.

It's a good thing I do this mostly for myself. Feedback around here is underwhelming at best, lol.

Thanks for the feedback. I haven't mentioned notes on my build vat. There is a big difference in quality of petri dishes out there. Get the good borosilicate glass dishes. Different brands have very different details on the bottom in terms of flatness/wavyness. I got the matching glass covers as well so I can remove, cover and store in a dark place Resin A when I want to build with Resin B. I don't want to contaminate my fresh unused resin with resin that has been left over from a build. I started off using the Teflon sheets from Muve as a separation surface. It is difficult to work with, at best, but it lasts for many builds and doesn't react when left covered with resin over time. I have some QSil on the way. It is easier to work with but I'm not sure how many prints it will last and if it degrades when left covered in resin for an extended time.

Any guesses as to how much I'll need to reduce exposures to drop layer height to 50 microns? What is the smallest layer height possible given the technology and mechanical limits of the DropLit ?

I have some MakerJuice SF to test as well. The MadeSolid black was very forgiving with a wide cure window as compared to the 3DInk, but that translucent amber was hypnotizing to watch.
