Smoothieboard group purchase

Post by imyz »

Not really sure if this is allowed, but here goes:
Over at the deltabots google group mailing list, there's a guy (well, me) organising a group purchase of Smoothieboards and the wonderful people behind the Smoothie project have agreed to give us a quite generous discount in case of a batch order, so anyone interested can apply to get the fantastic Smoothieboard for much lower price.
The hardware and software of this is really very, very well done, you won't regret getting one or two :) The 1st goal has already been reached, but if we can get the board count to more than a hundred, the discount will be even higher.

This is a once in a lifetime deal, so don't waste it!

How many so far ?

I'm up for a 5XC, I'll take 2 if that gets the count over the next price barrier.

It's 41 at the moment, but even now, the savings are quite something.
4X version for 104$ (usually 135) and 123$ for 5X (usually 170).

I am not a member of the other forum, though I was browsing there for this.
The spread sheet shows 46 and my name is NOT on it.
I am guessing that there is a "confirm" process (that may have to be done through the other group) and until I do that
I don't get a guaranty of a "coupon" ?

So, how do I confirm ?
Since it is heading for 50 I'll go for two 5XC

Well, the Smoothieboard guys are only checking the other forum and the discount code will also be posted there.
I have added your name to the list, but just in case, post in the other forum as well.

edit: Just mention, that you'll take 2 of 5XC and that's it :)
edit #2: Oh, and the process will be as follows:
on the google deltabot group will be posted a time limited discount code, that you can enter when ordering. The distribution will be trough oficial channels: robotseed.com and shop.uberlock.com
It's a good idea to check the thread over at https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic ... NTOnAk4jZM" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; frequently for updates.

The original deal was extended by 48 hours so it will end tonight after all, but really, it makes sense to check the thread over at google groups often, all of the updates will be posted there.
You can also subscribe to get the new messages to your email and be informed about any new developments immediately.

That thread is a little convoluted - is it basically a $ off coupon code for the online stores? I'm guessing it doesn't matter if we order the 5v DC converters on the boards, etc?

Yes, it's going to be a discount from a full order online and I am tracking only the board count.

I was not able to post there but after just reading pilot's post I definitely would not mind getting a 5XC.
When on mobile I am brief and may be perceived as an arsl.

Basically there is no "cut off" and no need to register interest. Arthur was offering price breaks at 20 and 100 boards. Now that the number is greater than a 100 he is giving the group the better break and it doesn't matter if you "were in" before or not. When he posts the discount code, it will be valued for some few days and available to everyone to use for as many boards as they want to buy AND discounted accessories too.

But there has been no date announced when the code will be made available so we are all impatiently waiting.

No update in the Google group for quite some time.
If enough people drop away from this maybe the ACTUAL volume will fall below the discount level, then MORE people will drop out and there will be a lot of surplus smoothie boards in excess inventory.
I *HOPE* not.

Picked up a 5x & GLCD Shield; Just to save everybody the time and hassle of google groups

Hello everybody !
Sorry for the delay, we had to make sure we had stock of everything you guys wanted :)
The code is now live, and it is :

DELTABOT-MARCH2015

Yay ! Fireworks ! \o/
This code is valid on both http://Uberclock.com ( for North-America orders ) and Robotseed.com ( for the rest of the planet ).

It will give you a 25% discount on your entire order ( not just your Smoothieboard ).
The code should be valid until the end of March.
Thanks everybody a ton for all the enthusiasm and for enabling this !
Cheers.
PS : Not mandatory, but we'd really love it if we got pictures/videos of your deltas running Smoothie once they do ^^

Oh Ohh...
It seems to have been SO LONG AGO :D
Right after this started I read everything I could on smoothie - understood SOME of it, thought I knew what I would get if/when the discount code ever got posted, etc.

Now I'm confused :D
I probably want the 5Volt regulator, but don't know which 5 configuration to get;
-
-xM
-xC

Is the difference some connector headers ?
Which would I want for a delta max ?

What are current smoothie users using on their Maxs ?

In the mean time I have been wandering around looking at cartesians and thinking about building a mendel tri with a smoothie.

I went with the -xC, might as-well have them solder the stuff on. The -xC and -xM are the same in regards to the end product.

The -xM comes like this with all pins, connectors, and headers that you have to solder and build ( not shown)
SBC-5X_1024x1024.jpg

the -xC comes like this with everything pre-soldered. Just have to build the connectors.

So, PART of the puzzle is to find and buy all the required plugs and pins, then crimp pins on, etc.
OR
to get the board without the sockets and SOLDER the wires directly.

Soldering is easier (for ME) and more reliable - even when crimps are done right there are still the dry contacts.
I think I'll get the board and sockets, then decide if I want to find plugs and crimp or just solder.

I'm pretty interested in the possibilities that the Smoothieboard opens up for 3D printing but I have to ask, has anyone here successfully gotten their V2 up and running on a Smoothieboard?
