I have over the past year had a couple of prints where I ran out of filament. Even when I have been watching (i.e. last night) I have run out of filament and ruined a print.
Somehow we should be able to set up an IR sensor that detects the filament in a "tunnel" such that when the filament pulls through this "tunnel" we activate the sensor and pause the print (i.e. keeping the HotEnd and Print Bed hot..... or at least the PrintBed hot!!!).
Has anyone done this......????

Re: Pausing the Printer when the Filament Runs Out
I know that it's been done, but I don't know how or with what firmware.
Search Thingiverse for filament monitor or something similar and i"m sure you'll find links.

I will look to see what I can find out. Thanks.
