PVA filamet

Has anyone tried printing it yet? I have an idea on what to use it for but am curious as to how it prints and what is to be expected.

PVA was originally intended as a support material that could be dissolved or softened in hot water, or at least that is what I remember.

With that said I have never tried it. I am using HIPS and I like it a lot. Treat is like ABS.

As in don't use a cooling fan? Will it warp if you do?

I just really started using it and find that the shrinkage seems to be less than ABS. With that said on print last night did lift on one side of a 4" circular base. It lifted about .2mm in about 10mm.

For this part it didn't matter. Playing with bed temp may solve this.

I have not used layer fans so far but that is something to play with.

ive printed with hips and its great stuff, but for what I want to experiment with I need to use pva. I read up some on it and the brown box user said he had to increase the feed rate to 200% once the first layres were put down. That just doesnt sound right....

PVA is supporting material best with PLA. HIPS is supporting material best with ABS.

PVA absorbs water badly. So once you opened the spool but not able to finish all, you better seal remainings with dessicant in an enclosed space. Otherwise, a few days later they become paste

On the other hand, the supporting material is really easy to remove. just throw into water(luke-warm better) and a few hours later you get what you want.

I have tried PVA last week. It sticks to PEI wery bad, it needs to print slow, so I want to try HIPS, hope it would be better for me

I see they sell a roll of this for 65$. Does it work well in lost-pla - direct burning out of the sand?

the pva filament produces way to much ash for investment casting. It reminds me of those magic snakes sold in fire works stores. I have some mold lay here finally,but have not had the time to do any testing of it.

I put up a thread here on it somewhere. Its pretty neat stuff, but is very sensitive to print with.
