And a discount if you were about to buy one:
Oh - one other thing. From now until 8/12 at 1pm, you can use code "reddit10off" for 10% off anything in the Filastruder store. Happy printing!

I've had great success with my filastruder, I'm even doing something that isn't really supposed to work well with mine but I am having fabulous results.

I am shredding the plastic from big name bigscreen TV's (sony, panasonic, etc) and then taking the resulting pellets and filastruding them into very nice high quality filament.

I know that re-heat cycles are supposed to degrade the plastic but I have not found this to be true at all, perhaps due to companies such as Sony using very high quality plastic for their cabinets in the first place.

A large, clean, none weathered rear projection TV from Sony gets me a very respectable 8-14lbs of very nice high quality plastic ready to be filastruded.

The resulting filament is comparable to any filament I have ever purchased from anywhere. Unfortunately using this system, you only have 2 real choices for final color, black and grey. Not many bright red or cool glow in the dark big screen Sony's out there, LOL.

I am going to do a writeup with pics of my setup soon, Everything is fairly automated and hands off except for the transfer of shredded to the filastruder.

But I no longer find myself running out of black ABS considering the ease of aquiring them around here anyways. People are very happy to let you drag them away from their property. The trick is to be slightly choosey and not take anything weathered or sun faded, this plastic is useless for us. And if they are even slightly dusty a good wash and dry with a pressure washer to get them really clean is advisable.

Nice tip.

Thinking of getting the filastruder.

Wonder if an acetone based shredder can be used.

Make slurry, pour in to sticks. Chopup and extrude.

Or pour as sheets and the use paper shredder.

Would this kind of shredder be of any use?

Not sure if that would work or not, it is important that it not be a fast moving cutting system or the plastic will melt rather than shred.

I got one of these and did a quadruple reduction system with a old overhead garage door opener (industrial) that has a 2 hp motor on it.
