assembly issue...
assembly issue...
I thought that I was just about ready for belts when I realized that my top plate was on backwards (upside down-The Z axis is is the right place, but the x and y are switched). Is it possible for me to keep this configuration and continue the build successfully?...realizing that the EZStruder and filament holder will be on the opposite side that the instructions indicate.

Re: assembly issue...
I would take it off and place it the way it is supposed to be. I would not be able to accept the fact that I put it on backwards or upside down and left it like that.

Re: assembly issue...
The more I look at it, the more it seems the way that I installed it (switching the top plate x and y axes) is actually the correct way according to the website's picture of the final machine...If the guide is followed, there is no way to have the ezstruder on the front left with the eyes looking right. My way will involve some wire rerouting because the tie down locations are in different places, but I can't foresee any other trouble. I could even drill some new tie down locations if I really wanted...Is there something that I'm not seeing?

Re: assembly issue...
It is your printer Sir, and you have the right to assemble it any way that you want to but I strongly suggest that you do not deviate from the assembly manual. Gene spent many hours preparing the manual and it has been followedmmorgan11 wrote:The more I look at it, the more it seems the way that I installed it (switching the top plate x and y axes) is actually the correct way according to the website's picture of the final machine...If the guide is followed, there is no way to have the ezstruder on the front left with the eyes looking right. by hundreds of users, to deviate may mean problems down the road that you cannot see or predict at this time.

Re: assembly issue...
mmorgan11, the way I build them at the shop is the way you are describing yours is... I do it that way so the eyes above the extruder are facing the correct way when the machine is built... either way works, but you are correct that here at the shop I build them differently than the manual has it listed.

I think I will just give up, one time it is to follow the manual now it is okay to deviate.guanu wrote:mmorgan11, the way I build them at the shop is the way you are describing yours is... Re: assembly issue...
hey, this is one of the pics from the entire album sent from the original prototype... its not my fault it was interpreted differently when the manual was made (in this pic, the X tower is closest to the camera)

Is there a place where these pictures can be downloaded?guanu wrote:hey, this is one of the pics from the entire album sent from the original prototype... its not my fault it was interpreted differently when the manual was made (in this pic, the X tower is closest to the camera)

2nd comment: I cannot get involved in interpretation of the pictures vs the manual, I hope you understand.
I will do the best with what we have to work with, that's why I appreciate the pictures.

It fits both ways and it works both ways. Enjoy it.

no problem eagle, it was more of a poke at gene because I like to see him explode =) the pics from when I built the prototype are at https://www.flickr.com/photos/seemecnc/ ... 135766783/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for some reason tho they are in no particular order as flickr decided to spew them around not in numerical order.. dunno why..

Let me tell you, building a printer off that flickr stream was... a process.

They appear to have some sort of protection on them as I cannot download them and save them to my hard disk.guanu wrote:no problem eagle, it was more of a poke at gene because I like to see him explode =) the pics from when I built the prototype are at https://www.flickr.com/photos/seemecnc/ ... 135766783/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for some reason tho they are in no particular order as flickr decided to spew them around not in numerical order.. dunno why..

Re: assembly issue...
I bet it was a process, but you accomplished it and created one fine manual from it so there Guanu!geneb wrote:Let me tell you, building a printer off that flickr stream was... a process.

Re: assembly issue...
It is a great manual and no easy task, thank you Gene.
Looking at those pictures, I found this one:
https://www.flickr.com/photos/seemecnc/ ... 135766783/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
looks like the end stop wires are going through the y tower (but the guide says to use the x tower), which explains why my tie down holes don't match up. Just a note for the next version of the guide
while I'm splitting hairs, I have one for you too, Guanu:
I hope you guys don't hate me, just for the sake of progress!

It looks to me like the z axis is closest to the camera (notice the angle of the ezstruder mount and the tie down location in front of it). Did you install the ezstruder facing the z axis and then have a change of heart?guanu wrote:hey, this is one of the pics from the entire album sent from the original prototype... its not my fault it was interpreted differently when the manual was made (in this pic, the X tower is closest to the camera)
