Fried my Rambo - Can I just 'drop in' a Duet board?

Proud owner of a venerable Max V2 - one of the olllllder ones with the ATX power supply.

Aside from the injection-molded skates, the printer is totally stock.

Earlier in the week, I sneezed during a voltage measurement and let the Magic Smoke out of my Rambo board.

I'm entertaining replacing it with a Duet w/wifi board instead, but wanted to ask:

If I wanted to go with a Duet board, is there any other hardware i need to replace? I dig that a new power supply is probably also on the menu, but are my existing motors, thermistors, heaters, etc going to be okay?

The primary gain in the Duet is the ability to do auto-calibration. In order to do that, you either need a Smart Effector and your hot end of choice, or the SE300 hot end assembly from SeeMeCNC. I'd also /highly/ recommend you get the ball/cup arm kit if your machine is still using the u-joint arms.

I agree that the Duet opens the doors to a lot of great things - but my primary focus in the nearterm is get back to an operational printer, with a Duet instead of a Rambo to lay the groundwork for said great things. :)

With that in mind, anything I should be wary of, regarding my existing V2-Stock hardware?

Not that I'm aware of. I saw a mount on Thingiverse some years ago that would allow an easy drop-in of a Duet to where the RAMBo was.

You might also look at at Duet Maestro if the Duet WiFi would be overkill. It's less money.

I have a design for a duet .8.5 drop in mount with fan holes for more normal fan sizes on the back, posted to Repables. It replaces exactly the original tray for the rambo. However, the Duet uses Molex KK series .1 inch headers, which are slightly different and don't directly mate to the Molex LP connectors that are usually used with the rambo, but straight .1 inch connectors, without any polarizing or locking features will mate to both.
