Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Hi All
I have been designing this Radial cooling Housing, for the MAX 2 because when I print something tall it seems to sag to the Z post. After 3 or 4 tries at style, and 7 prototypes, I got it, seem to be working fine, cooling the ABS at 10% fan setting. I have the stl and gcode, These file do not have to be scaled, already done ready to print. Glue the cap in with PVC/ABS cement to seal top.
Happy Printing

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Looks interesting, you'll have to let us know how well it works.
Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
I have tested it on a tall object, Printed great, ABS, 228c Bed 80c fan 10% turned on after 1st layer, no sag. I have a video of it in action, but do not know how or where to up load it. Maybe in a personal message?Glacian22 wrote:Looks interesting, you'll have to let us know how well it works.

use tinypic.com to upload the video.
Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
I really liked this design until it didn't account for the LED light ring...any chance you could fiddle with it and make it a wider circle?
or provide the source files so I could mess with it myself in Solidworks?

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
I can give you a dwg, dxf or if you can import an Inventor file .ipt send a PM to let me know. also if you can send me some info on the LED's it might be a simple fix.Neptune wrote:I really liked this design until it didn't account for the LED light ring...any chance you could fiddle with it and make it a wider circle?

I just have one of the TrickLaser light rings installed. http://www.tricklaser.com/LED-Light-Rin ... D-RING.htm
PM sent.
Also, where did you get the end effector model, that would be nice to have.

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
If you can send me a few dimensions , OD, ID, Thickness. bolt hole circle and hole size, I will draw it and see if I can add a mount for it. [email protected]
As for the effector I will check to see if I can post it.

The effector can be found on repables.com from PartDaddy. http://repables.com/r/294/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Looks similar to the one I designed a while back.

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
They are very similar.
Jack, I'll have to ponder this a bit, I'm not sure how to accomodate the light ring and the fan housing(I need to take my end effector off and really measure and look at things from that angle).

Just to let you know I almost have the one to mount the tricklaser, also maybe one for three fans, print transparent ABS

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Love the fan design. Do you think that one fan is sufficient for air flow or would three fans be need to do the trick.
Again, nice design.

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
You gonna share that 3 fan design? I doubt it has enough clearance for my setup, but it's a cool design anyway.

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Here it is. I believe that if the front fan clears others will be fine. I printed the first one in clear ABS, very bright, maybe white will give a softer light.bot wrote:You gonna share that 3 fan design? I doubt it has enough clearance for my setup, but it's a cool design anyway.

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Does the "cap" previously designed work for this three fan design or do you need the LED ring to seal the radial fan housing.

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
This was designed for the tricklaser led light. I created a cover to fit, did not print it yet, but should be fine. Check out the Tricklaser3D-Print wrote:Does the "cap" previously designed work for this three fan design or do you need the LED ring to seal the radial fan housing.

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Thank you. I will look into the LED's and the clear ABS you used with it looks awesome.

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Hi 3d-Print
Try any light color, I find the clear gives a real nice white, but white ABS might give it an incandescent type glow, easier on the eyes. Yellow or green might also work ok

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
What was your thinking on orienting the fans 90 degrees to the air duct tube? If you orient them inline you can save some space and also have less collision potential...draw-tech wrote:This was designed for the tricklaser led light. I really like how you did this design...and thanks for doing it!

Hi Neptune
The main reason I positioned the fan that way, to keep from sucking hot air from the peek fan.

That's exactly why I asked! Wasn't even thinking about that. Good work!draw-tech wrote:Hi Neptune

Any chance I could get the source files for this? In case I need to make adjustments for my setup.
Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
How much would it take to position the fans straight and above the hot end housing. This would give clearance for jfettig enclosure? Draw-Tech, I sent you a PM as well asking.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Radial Layer Cooling Housing MAX2
Hi draw-tech,
that is a really awesome fan shroud you have designed.
LOVE the way the light ring glows and diffuses the light.
Having 3 fans is wonderful.
Great work.
I would like to see the fans turned 90 degrees for better clearance of arms when at print extents, and maybe better airflow not having the tight 90 degree bend in air path.
IMHO possibly taking in a bit of warmer air from peek fan is inconsequential... my "Maker" buddy claims it does not matter if air is warm or cool, it is the air MOVEMENT that draws away heat. What do you think?
