[27Aug14] Orion User's Manual, 2nd Edition!

Post by geneb »

Here's the 2nd edition of the Orion User's Manual!

http://download.seemecnc.com/orion/Orio ... -2ndEd.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This updates the manual to incorporate the new firmware, which changes all the front panel instructions.

[12Feb14]
Notification added to let users know more clearly which edition of the manual applies to their particular Orion. Essentially, machines with a serial number of 100170 or higher will come shipped with the 0.91 firmware, earlier will come with 0.83.

[23Mar14]
Added Andy's "factory" calibration process finally. Note that the download location has changed!

[27Aug14]
Updated photos for initial LCD install and added additional details on what the LCD displays.
Enjoy!

I've had a lot of trouble printing PLA and I think I may have discovered the issue, in ORIONPLA.ini:
# generated by Slic3r 0.9.10b on Mon Oct 7 12:12:46 2013
avoid_crossing_perimeters = 1
bed_size = 260,260
bed_temperature = 70
...
Not sure this is what was actually causing my problems, as I've yet to load some PLA to test. But it seems like it might matter.
Thanks,
~Joe

That simply describes what Slic3r thought the max bed size was when the model was sliced. There's nothing wrong with the file.

Got my printer a couple of days ago and not had any real issues at all and the Manual is very thorough.

Only issues I thought were omitted or could be improved are the following:

1. My limit switches were taped up. I did spot it but could easily be missed, also the tape needs to be carefully removed as it would be easy to damage
the switch if you pull it off without some care.

So an additional step saying to carefully remove the tape off the limit switches should be considered.

2. The switch has changed from the front panel toggle to a black rocker.. the same a on the Max (miles better IMO). There are a one or two references to this old toggle switch elsewhere.

3. The Z height setting references ABS when PLA is now supplied. I did set it at PLA temps, not sure if the temperature differential matters enough
between the two but setting it up for PLA and it's working perfectly with PLA, Made sense to me anyway. Only thing in the entire manual I had any real questions over. I suspect before I change to ABS i'll need to redo it as I could strike the plate at the higher temps for ABS.

4. A UK specific issue is the unit is supplied with a US plug but in the UK you need a fused UK plug. I presumed 5A Fuse as that's what is used for PC PSUs.

Overall I'm getting prints that far exceeded my expectations with no actual printing issues at all.
