Rostock V2 Enclosure Bracket Fail/Retry

This is a picture of two attempts at printing a corner bracket for an experimental heated enclosure for a Rostock V2.

Both were printed with ABS on a Rostock V2. The bed was glue-stick coated for all attempts.

The first print, on the right, had manually designed supports, was printed at 225C extruder temp, 105C bed temp, 50% 3d hexagonal fill from slic3r. A couple supports weren't perfectly aligned and some lifting happened on overhanging corners. Worse, one of the layers on the smaller upper section had visibly delaminated. A little work with pliers and the top sections of the piece easily pulled apart.

The second print, on the left, had the extruder temperature raised to 235 and used automatically-generated supports from slic3r on top of manually designed rafts. Fill was raised to 70% and rectilinear. The auto-generated slic3r rafts didn't stick well at all; the quick direction change at the end of each row tended to lift the entire end. An imperfect bed level probably contributed to the auto-rafts not working as well.

With manual rafts, the left print worked almost completely. The layer adhesion seems good after raising the print temperature. Semicircular reinforcement sections were added to the thinner pieces. Hopefully that will help hold them together. The end pieces that are seen holding the steel pegs lifted a little up from the bed, but I think the mechanical difference might be tolerable. For printing the other brackets, I'll probably need to add pads to hold those sections down. Also pictured is a little foam weatherstripping that will pad the bracket contact with the melamine.

Hopefully the second try will eventually be part of a new curvy enclosure!

Good luck on the second try and let us know the result.
