Broken glass plate

Post by int2str »

I've been using Elmers glue exclusively from day 1 with my ORION. It's been working great for many hours and has never given me problems...
Well, yesterday it happened - the glas plate broke.

After printing a part and letting it cool on the plate, I gently pried the part off (using a plastic scraper) and part of the glass plate stayed attached to the part.... :(

Didn't think this would happen with Elmers only - alas, it did.

Sorry to hear that and it is hard to believe it happened with Elmers glue.
Very unusual but it is what it is. I've been lucky so far with my hair spray but my day will come.
Again, I am sorry that this happened to you and I know the sickening feeling in the pit of your stomach when something like this happens.
Better luck in the future.

Did you break a cheap piece of window glass, or was this a piece of boro glass?

Can I ask what material you were printing with? I remember seeing someone break their borosilicate by printing a very large nylon part...

Whatever comes with the ORION.

ABS. I've only ever printed ABS on this machine.

When you cleaned the plate before, what did you use? I found that after numerous prints the glass just goes, I was thinking about sourcing a 1/4" or 3/8" tempered glass piece from Binswanger and seeing how it would hold up. My personal feeling is that the Boro glass that comes with the Orion is a bit too thin.
