Hey Guys I heard about the flexible rubber like filament and was so excited that I wanted to buy it right away untill I saw that it isnt bowden extruder compatible. I guess this makes sense but would anyone have any ideas on how I Could modify my orion to run using a normal extruder or somthing else to allow use of flexible filament?

What temperature do you use with the ninjaflex to get it to extrude?

I bought Filaflex 1.75mm, and I'll let you know how it goes with stock hot end and extruder as soon as I try it out... but I'm still waiting for delivery.

Thought: Even if this stuff doesn't have fantastic adherence. the part could be designed so that the hard material has flanged "teeth" so that it locks onto the soft.

even if your not using dual extruders and you have some room you can design joints to hold the two together. i just did the hand on thingiverse http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:242639

and the way the round part is pushed through a small slot works very well.

and the way the round part is pushed through a small slot works very well.

That hand is the neatest thing I have seen in a long time. The guy that developed that is one smart dude!

Yea, I had a similar thought. Mechanical lock. and hell yea! that hand is very cool!

Does anyone know if Ninjaflex would have similar properties to the Filaflex?

It appears that I could not manage to print filaflex with stock hot end and ez-struder...

I hope it will work better with the kraken... but somehow, I doubt it.

Probably would need a micro extruder directly on the effector plate....

I'm not sure but possibly a geared stepper extruder would work but you may be correct because the filament is so flexible.

yeah, possibly... but as I feel it, feeding the filament by hand, I don't think a geared extruder will do any better.

Actually, I believe it could go bowden, if the bowden is not too long. Maybe half than on the Rostock would do.

I have a different bowden tube, I'll try to change it also...maybe the new one would drive the filament better...

Looks like it's a universal issue. I haven't tried this filament yet, maybe some tips & tricks can be gleaned from this extruder design.

so, what exactly is the problem with this kind of material and a bowden extruder? is it just not ridged enough and binds in the tube?

The filament is somehow rubbery, and it won't slide as well in the tubing as a hard filament.

Then, when you push it through, it becomes more and more difficult as it goes further in the bowden, and has more rubber effect all along the tube.

So when the extruder tries to push it, it will bind just before entering the tube, inside the extruder.

It should be fine however with a short bowden. I will try to see if I can find a way to bring the extruder nearer to hot end when I use filaflex.
I will also try another kind of bowden that I have here.

If it still does not work, I believe one should direct extrude with a micro extruder.

I dont know what kind of stuff I'm printing with but I decided to try the flex filament I have here with my Orion... ezstruder, and stock hot end... 225c hotend, but you have to print slow... think I'm at about 28mm/sec currently, any faster and it jams in the extruder (bends before bowden tube) but I'll throw on a pic..

I saw ninjaflex at MRRF and that stuff was awesome.. the guy who was printing it was running it on a kossel mini, so I remembered I had this stuff and decided to try it... its not bad.. want to try ninjaflex or anohter style in the orion to compare....
