New Rostock Max is moving under it's own power

Post by v8tony »

I have a dumb question.

Is there a way I can move the platform around and calibrate it before I get the hot end assembled. I build the machine first and wanted to get the platform moving and do some dumb thing like draw with a pen on paper before I finished the hot end and extruder... However, I keep getting errors and it won't really do anything except respond to a G28 command... Everything else seems to be off limits, I can even jog any of the axis...

Anything I can do?

I guess I'll make putting together the hot end a priority otherwise...

You should be able to move it around using the jog arrows after you home it with G28.

What errors do you get?

I get something like the following when I first start it up:

13:01:42.020 : start
13:01:42.020 : echo: External Reset
13:01:42.020 : Marlin 1.0.0

Then I manually send the G28 and try to jog it around (and it doesn't move)... I then hit the home all button and it moves down slightly and resets all axis...

That's all it will do... I keep getting that line number error... and error: 0... and the checksum error...

Tony, you haveto have a thermistor plugged in for the hotend. It is failsafed so that you cantmove without it, and wont let it have a meltdown.

John,

Yep, that was my problem. I wired up a thermistor just to make it happy and it's able to jog now...

couple more questions/comments:
I'm using 2 of the 4 wires on the larger gage wire that came with the kit for the heated bed. Should I have doubled them up? Seems like a large enough wire with just 1 for pos and 1 for neg.

Wiring up the LCD screen is a major pain (unless I missed something)... I had to make a custom ribbon cable by cutting up an old IDE ribbon cable I had lying around...

The laser cut mount for the LCD board is pretty much useless (slot too small for the board and the part labled SD isn't wide enough for the solder on the SD reader)... I'm not too worried, I'm planning on printing an enclosure for it to mount it on the other side of the RAMBo board (I put mine on the inside of the door)...

I also had to carve clearance for the tensioners on the "cheapskates". The laser cut slot wasn't tall enough for it to fit through... I don't know why the slot needs to be so close to the exact size, seems like it could be a more generous fit...

It seems like when you hit the home button on Repetier it tries to home each axis independantly... that can be "dangerous" with a delta, no? if it's down to far from "home" it will crash the platform into the tower... maybe it won't do this if you've already sent a G28 command to "home" it? I can't be the only one to notice this, no?

I think I hear "chatter" on one of the servos when the move fast... around 1200 they chatter and at 1000 they seem clean... anything I should worry about? what should I check?

I'm making progress.... The RTV is curing on my hot end and build platform as we speak...
