Re: Make Log: Neurascenic : GRS Storage
First up, is my solution to storing a specific Tool Set.
GRS Benchmate: A quasi modular set of tools that connect to the front end of a jewelers bench (typical use)
Great set of tools, but storing them when not in use is a pain. The mounting plates cost $ about 20. Which is fine for work needs, but storage... Ah Hell Nah!
Solution, Print my own Mounting plates, and install them within reach, but out of the way. (Might move these underneath the bench.)
GRS Benchmate Ring/other stuff tools

GRSMounting Plate

BenchPin (for the sacrifice of it all) on the GRS Mounting Plate

Solution

Solution in action! (note the clips to hold onto the flexshaft tool (foredom) hand pieces (more on that later)

All together now: Clap your hands!

I will end up with at least 3 more mounts for tools I plan on building to work with this system. Good storage... a great thing!
Chris

Re: Make Log: Neurascenic :Habilis File Handle
Here is a handle for a Habilis File, I don't think these typically get a handle... could be wrong though.
I did make the scutcheon a little too big though. looks like I am going to try to fence with it. Have to re-think this.
Also made with internal "Fingers" to try to grip the file. didn't work out as hot as I had intended. Good thing this file is used with a pushing motion.

Some great ideas for your storage of tools. I really like that file handle, never would have thought of that.
Excellent job!

Thanks! once I get that scutcheon rebuilt, I will offer it up for the taking.Eaglezsoar wrote:Some great ideas for your storage of tools. I really like that file handle, never would have thought of that.

Re: Make Log: Neurascenic : Foreddom/Flexshaft hand piece cl
Foredom/Flexshaft Hand piece storage.
I run a couple of these gizmos now, and will be getting a third (speed is everything and convenience directly correlates to speed)

Problem I am having, same as i have with everything, is if I keep the hand pieces out where they are convenient and handy, then they are in the way, roll around, and fall off the bench. Not optimal for a studio with potentially hundreds of tools.
RoMax to the rescue!
A edge mount clip to hold my hand pieces (Currently 3). The clips are designed to interlock and auto align. Each clip is designed specific to the design of the hand piece which optimally forces organization.

Interlocking

Almost complete

Installing endcaps to make it pretty. (forgot to plan for the edge of the bench... But I am going to rearrange the clips any way. the center one (hammer) should be the farthest away from me as it is used the least, so I will adjust the end cap to the edge of the bench then)

Complete. though, I am still not using a layer fan on the PLA... it shows up sometimes as it did here on the left end cap.

A very nice tool! The cost on Amazon runs $260 to over $300.
Do you feel you do enough work with this type of tool to justify the cost?

Re: Make Log: Neurascenic
Yes! this is probably the most used tool in the typical bench jewelers studio.
Next might be a jewelers saw (small coping saw)
In fact, I have (and most others do) if you choose to use a dremel, you will burn it own in less than a year.
There are cheaper versions, aka, harbor freight... but cheaper = cheaper.
Not that I am opposed to buying something from harbor freight, but never for a tool so indispensable.
Locally, I can get it for $232+tax

Re: Make Log: Neurascenic
If you use it then it is certainly worth the cost. I have burned out 2 dremels and I wouldn't think of purchasing a dremel type tool fromneurascenic wrote:Yes! this is probably the most used tool in the typical bench jewelers studio.

Harbor Freight. You'd be lucky if it lasted a few days. I use a dremel very infrequently and now own the rechargeable type that doesn't come
close to the setup you have.

Re: Make Log: Neurascenic
I have a Foredom as well and love it. I would love the files for these clips. Is each clip specific to a particular hand piece ? I have 3 but can't remember which 3 off the top of my head.
Have you thought about end caps for the Handpieces, to keep dust and debris from collecting in the connector socket?

I would be happy to post the files. I am leery of Instructables, so will probably create an account on repables.MonkeyLairLabs wrote:I have a Foredom as well and love it. Yes, each clip is created for the hand piece. Currently I only have the clips for the 3 pieces I have. #30 Hammer and quick Release (forgot the number)
There are a number of tools that have the same spring end that the hammer has, this clip should fit all of them.
The #30 that I have the clip for (left most in the picture) is from an older foredom CC. the newer SR types are a little different and this clip will not work with them.
I have one of those too, so I will be making a clip for that one too. I did not need it right away, as that FlexShaft is pretty much dedicated to a task and that hand piece isn't swapped out as often. If you have a newer #30, I could rebuild the clip sooner than later
If your pieces are different, won't be a problem, I might as well create every possible one I can. maybe I can make a little money selling them. (Free to members here though)
Just give me the critical dims in mm and I can build some. Tricky part is, if the diameter changes quickly, the clip should be split like the #30 has. if it changes gradually or slightly, then It can be all in one like the other two.
I have not given much thought to Caps, thought that is a good idea. I could put a loop on the cap and the Clip so that it could be tethered to the clip. Loss prevention.

Re: Make Log: Neurascenic
yea, there are a lot of tools that would be a no-go from HF... quibling about price... check out those hammers in the first picture of the first post of this thread... those damn things are $40-80 each! and there are at least 30 of them... each aimed at a specific task. So far, those are the only two I have.Eaglezsoar wrote:If you use it then it is certainly worth the cost.
