I have a ver 1 max. I am tring to address the leveling screw construction on my machine. It seems that the screws do not screw perfectly straight up and down. Has anyone address this issue? Is there a mod?

what I would like to do is place a longer screw in place of the ones there and make some sort of printed part that gives more "meat" for the screw to stay true. Is this idea silly or has someone already solved it?

I'm assuming the carriage design didn't change too much since the V1s (honestly I can't remember what the V1 I built looked like, been a year or so since Ive seen it). If thats true then the screw has to thread through a hole in the side of a slant, so the threads don't engage on the whole circumference of the hole right away, so the screws don't quite seem to want to thread straight all that often. I'm not aware of any carriage redesigns that anyone has made other than the magnetic ones and the one Jfettig made for the Trick Laser arms. I am aware, however, that SeeMe redesigned the Cheapskates to move the carriage arm mounts up so long screws aren't necessary. The TrickTrucks also accomplish this, but all the hardware needed for them makes it a $100 upgrade.

What I would do is ask if anyone has some cheapskates (newer design) that they aren't using anymore since the TrickTruck upgrade, or I would ditch the whole "adjust this endstop screw" method and move to the EEPROM method of adjusting the tower offsets. Or you could design that thing you're wanting.

The head is much wider than a normal screw and can sometimes help to take care of a misalignment of the screw and endstop.

You could also drill into the melamine and thread a screw directly into it for adjustment.
I believe that you need to flip the switch over to land everything just right.

This is assuming that you can drill straighter than they can, though.

Yeah, if you flip around the snapswitch, the lever hits the carriage, so no screw needed if you're leveling it in EEPROM.

i am conflicted with using eeprom. I've read that (especially when levelling) you do not want to use eeprom.

That's a relic of the past. Changes used to be made via modifying the config.h file and reuploading the firmware. EEPROM would affect this, as the EEPROM overrides these values. Now most all calibration variables are stored in EEPROM.
