Temperature Teflon 4mm.

Post by charles »

What is the maximum temperature of the Teflon (4mm)?
Anyone know the manufacturer's specifications?

Teflon is a brand-name for PTFE. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polytetrafluoroethylene

The short answer is it doesn't actually melt until 327 C, but starts to degrade above 260 C.

Keep your pet birds away from your printer meltdowns...apparently they're very sensitive to the degradation by-products.

Can't find the link now, either, but the Reprap Wiki used to have a really scary warning about how breathing the fumes of melting PTFE has been linked to cancers of different types. So yeah, be careful, bro!
