Holding down the bed after mods?

Post by Qdeathstar »

Hi,

I just got TrickLaser's aluminum heat spreader in the mail, and tomorrow im getting a sheet of PEI delivered. I think the PEI sheet is 5 mills thick, coupled with the aluminum spreader i think this might add to much girth to the bed, and those tiny clips dont look like they'll open wide enough. Should I just get bigger clips? it seems like if i do that i'll loose some printable area?

Any recommendations?

Maybe don't put the bigger clip on all the way. No one says they have to be seated all the way

I only put my clips on part way and dropped back to only using 3 clips.

hay, it was actually 10 miles thick, which is like a peice of paper. The original clips worked fine :D

but, I've done one print. it stuck nicely, but I have been unable to get the abs from the primer brim off.....

I googled and saw I can use 99% alcohol or Acetone... but that convo was from 2014.... is it still recommended to use acetone? I got that on hand...

Acetone is a great solvent for ABS. It'll also dissolve PEI, so not a good choice for that surface. Use at your own risk.

Isopropyl Alcohol is the recommended cleaning solution for PEI surfaces, but that isn't going have much effect on ABS.

You may need to apply more mechanical force with a plastic scraper to get your brim off.

Ive read that too. But as there are divided opinions, I never had the balls to use acetone to clean my PEI.

FYI: one year of use. Always with isopropyl alcohol after each print, applying a little force when cleaning it.
Still haven't found the need to sand it.

What do you clean it with? I was trying to use my print removal tool, but it seems like it wants to stick into the pei and I'm afraid of gouging it...

Would one of those green scrubbies be ok on it?

Hi, when something sticks really well, with this little guy.
It's great for removing brims.

I would think that would damage the pei, off to the hardware store :D

Is denatured alcohol suitable for cleaning pei? It's all they had at the hardware store
