Z height

Post by jbinion »

We're pretty close to doing our first print. We've taken the corner bracket stl and sliced it in Slic3r. When we load it into Mach3 everything seems to be working except that the z is too high. instead of being right at the bed it is about 1/2-3/4" above the bed. When I start Mach3 I go into offsets and set zero as the center of the bed. Where do I find the Z retraction?

Maybe take a look at your Z offset setting in slic3r? It should be zero, and you touch the tip of the nozzle to the bed, feel with a piece of paper, and set that to Z 0

Can you use hotkeys to move it to the right spot then just home it ?

Hi,
Checked Z and it is set at zero and set the center of the bed as home in Mach3. This is the gcode and my slic3r config:
config.ini
(1.85 KiB) Downloaded 250 times
Nautilus_Gear-1.gcode
G code
(2.16 MiB) Downloaded 247 times
Any ideas would be great.

Ok, I figured it out, but now I need to figure out how to keep it from happening in the future.

About the only thing I can see is layer height, but in the G code it retracts z to .4 and it looks like .4 inch not .4 mm even though the g code sets measurement so mm first. HELP!!!!! lol

In your config you are not set up for Mach3, it is set for marlin/sprinter.
Other than that the only other thing I see is an odd layer height .254 ???
I usually set my layer height to .3 for starters.
And have you calibrated the steps per in mach?
Sounds like the Z is not calibrated.

Turns out it was z lift in slic3r.
I wil adjust to .3 though, not sure about the odd number. Should do our first print tonight!!! I just needed to make a new computer for Ellen so I could swipe hers.
