Any thoughts on this hot end?

Post by Penged »

If you look bang good has tons of things for arduino, CnC machines and 3D printers. I have ordered things numerous times and other than shipping being hit or miss(I think customs might hold things up) It all has worked for me. It appears that the 3D printing stuff comes from a site called geeech.com. I wonder if this is a knock off of "genuine" hot ends or identical and just sold through different sources.

E3D rip-off. They should not be allowed to use the name "E3D" for their version of the product. I suspect the machining quality will not be up to the standards of a real E3D hot end. Don't skimp on this most critical element of your printer. All E3D hot ends are machined and manufactured in the UK with SUPERB finish.

It looks like a poor combination of an E3D hotend, and a Budaschnoozle style nozzle, and it lacks narrowing in the heatbreak, which may decrease performance. I wouldn't buy it, and there is no guarantee you'll be able to get replacement nozzles for it, so eventually it will crap out. It's also PTFE lined according to one review, and is no higher temp than the stock hotend.

I would be VERY hesitant to buy this hot end in the first place. Thanks for the information about the origin of E3D hot ends. I also didn't know about the temperature restrictions.

E3D uses the creative commons licensing. Not like they tried hard to keep it from being cloned.

Honestly if the nozzle and heatbreak are decent, you shouldn't have much of an issue.

I am fine with folks manufacturing and selling Open Source designs if the license permits it. I am not fine with the company naming it the same or obfuscating that it is not an authentic E3D product. They should be clear what they are selling.

E3D Online has spent a lot of effort on machining and polishing the bore of the heartbreak, etc. There is no guarantee that knock-offs are going to do the same thing. In this case, note that the heartbreak does not have the groove - which is part of the magic of an E3D v6 hot end. So, since they are not actually following the Open Source design, they should state that too. Caveat Emptor as they say.
