KISSlicer and Cura with LinuxCNC

Post by TKL »

I anyone using KISSlicer or Cura with LinuxCNC? If so, how is your setup? I kind of had it with Slic3r. I made some parts that is suppose to fit together with Slic3r but they aren't

I stared using KISSlicer and the results are A LOT better than Slic3r. Most noticeably I am not getting any more strings with my prints.

I still use slic3r if I want to print a quick object. KISSlicer gcode takes longer to print (if i change the print speed the objects will have skew).

But do you use it with Linux CNC? KisSlicer uses some M codes that LinuxCNC do not understand.

I think it is M codes higher than 200 or 300

Hmmm. Well, most of the m codes generated by slic3r and skrinforge etc... are for firmware mods, so if you dont need the m codes it is generating, i can show you hoe to remove them from skeins output gcode. You use a file named replace.csv and simply type the Mxxx then a space and then a comment code, like ; and it will put the ; in frint of any line with that m code in it. Would that work?

I know that, but it is not really enough to understand how it works. I would never buy a piece of software that didn't have a proper manual.

JohnOly,

You said KISSlicer generates really smooth gcode.

I was wondering if you could expand on that.
How is the generated gcode better?
surely lines and arcs would be the same--they just sections of a model.
How would they be different from other programs that do the same thing?

Is there certain areas that this program is better at handling?

It is it better at handling machine specific M codes, for example?

Thanks,
Steve

KisSlicer generates code with much fewer un-neccessary moves and more optimized tool paths.
