Howdy all,
I have developed an STL model which I have tested in netfabb and meshlab and it appears closed and orientable with no errors. However, Slic3r takes 13 hours (overnight) to generate the g-code and the g-code won't function in visualisation software.
kisslicer generates g-code quickly, but again it fails to function in visualisation software. I have tested other models with similar complexity in both programs with no problems.
Here is the model:
Does anyone have any hints/tips?
Thanks for any help,
Mike

Have you tried to run this through Netfabb and let netfabb repair any errors it finds? http://cloud.netfabb.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
I know you said you ran this through Netfabb, but have you ran a repair even though it shows no errors?

when i dl that file.. and open it in kiss.. its huge!!! I dont know if this is causing you errors, try to edit in CAD again and scale it by 10%
when i scaled it, it did have some errors near the base, before it starts to twist.

I will give it a look. And try slicing with Cura.

Re: Slic3r generated g-code appears faulty
I opened your .stl in netfabb, scaled it down to 10%, ran repair on it twice, then exported as .stl.
Repetier/Slic3r .90 sliced it fine.
sliced .2layers, 3 perimeters, no fill
preview looks right, but I have not actually printed it yet.
the fixed .stl is attached.
did not have time to try in Cura.

Thanks for the replies!
I tried it at 10% and it appears to work fine.. I can't believe I didn't try that.
Truth is I was hoping to get it made by CNC but wanted to 3D print it first for rapid prototyping. The actual full sized part would wind up being 1-2 meters, so yeah quite large!
Cheers!

Netfabb throws up no errors but does have 'red' triangles marking an error down the bottom as mentioned. I ran the 'default repair' a couple of times to no avail. I think they are intersecting triangles. Not sure how to fix that as I made this part mathematically then stitched it together using Meshlab and Netfabb. I have never used a mesh based CAD program...Have you tried to run this through Netfabb and let netfabb repair any errors it finds? http://cloud.netfabb.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
