There is a little checkbox in the interface since 7.0 to generate support, I occasionally see it report "generating support" and I have never seen any support material in the print.
Has anyone gotten this to work?
Has anyone gotten Slic3r to generate support material?

It does generate support material, but only in very extreme cases.
Unfortunately the logic to determine if it should is far too conservative for it to be useful at this point.

It does not work, it looks like a bug is open with the creators.

As I said I've seen it generate support, but only in extreme cases, in my case the part was upside down because repetier host doesn't seem to correctly display rotated STL files.
I actually did spend a short amount of time looking at the code after I saw it generate the material, the logic for support is just not good.
