I seem to have created a mini-jackhammer. Any help appreciated.

So, for some reason, my calibration isn't working out as well as I'd hoped. When I did the video, it went towards the X axis and did the mini jackhammer thing, although when I first tried to calibrate it, it did the same thing toward the Y axis. If anyone has any ideas to troubleshoot, I'd definitely appreciate it!

When you do a G29, It's supposed to home the carriages first, correct? That jackhammering sounds like belt skipping, causing the nozzle to bounce off the glass. I'd say y'all have your motors turning the wrong way.

I am literally following the guides on the SeeMeCNC website step by step.

your IMU it not hooked up right, on there instructions when you are wiring the connection that goes into the hot end they left it ambiguous. when I wired mine the connector had a #1 on both sides which I of course read the wrong #1 and had it backwards. while looking at the printer from the front the wire on your left side in the 8 pin connector should be green, if its not then rewire it the other way.

Thank you mds3102 for the suggestion. Unfortunately for me when I look at the 8 wires from the front of my printer the green wire is on the far left side.

Thank you geneb for the suggestion. I actually took the HEW wireing apart and reversed it and tried it again and it didn't even run. I put it back together as I had it (which does match the diagram) and I had the same result as the video above. I'll keep searching the forums and trying everything this 3D printing resource suggests. Thank you again for your time.

I was having a similar issue and found that my y axis end stop wiring at the Rambo wasn't fully engaged into the clip. might be worth a check to verify all of the end stops are all seated.

The first visible thing a G29 does is home all axis. So you should first see the carriages go up. Instead I see they go down. They go down until they can't anymore. That ratcheting you see and hear are the belts slipping on the cogged pulleys. That is a bad thing and you should not let it do that as it wears the belt away.

First get it to home the right direction. It is one of two things: your motors are wired up backwards or the firmware is configure to run backwards. If the wiring is correct then the firmware is not configured correctly. Make sure you set everything into the firmware correctly like the type of machine it is. Make sure you do each step of the firmware config.

It is an artifact that the SeeMeCNC Repetier branch does a G28 when you run G29. This is not standard and other firmwares do not do this. In fact, the official RepRapWiki gcode documentation states:

This command uses a probe to measure the bed height at 3 or more points to determine its tilt and overall flatness. It then enables compensation so that the nozzle will remain parallel to the bed. The printer must be homed with G28 before using this command.

Best to check wiring/proper stepper function simply by issuing the G28 home command and seeing what happens. That will eliminate issues due to wiring and configuration. It also down't matter if you correct the direction in firmware or by rewiring, the result will be the same. If you do it in firmware though, you will have to remember this in the future if you do any firmware updates.

So, mine ended up being completely installed wrong where none of the switches could engage at the top. (I had the top panel upside down when I'd installed everything on it thinking at the end it would flip over to be put on upside down. So had to redo everything.) Now, all of the switches are able to engage at the top, so it begins to calibrate, but then does something completely different than the jackhammer. Hopefully you don't have the same issue, because it was a royal pain to redo everything at the top. You might also check to see that your leads at the top are connected to the two outside thingies that you (hopefully) bent before you installed it. (The part that has the switch that the screw connects to when it hits the top.)

Mine is currently doing this (view the youtube link below) when I give the g29 command if anyone has any ideas on it. The errors it seems to having is the Zprobe is failing on sensiivity on both X tower and Y tower.

It would appear that the y stepper stopped working after the first probe by the x tower. Check the Y stepper wiring. It appears to be intermittent.

Maybe check that the belts on the y are tight as well. It looks like it can go down but not up.

Problem solved! It turns out my student put ALL 3 of the endstop switches on backwards so when the screws went through the holes in the top they were not engaging anything. Thank you again everyone for your time and ideas.
