Duet setup - instructions in progress
Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
Gene, I bet it's is a power issue. Have you had a chance to try 12 yet.
Otherwise, are you sure your net mask and gateway are correct?

Not sure why you can't simply print without recalibrating. Something is not right - either your process or config.

The Powerpole "link" is someone's email address.
The network address and netmask are correct. I have not tried 12v + USB yet.

Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
His link was (I suspect) for the specific connector - I've known about the "normal" PowerPoles for years - I've even got the fancy crimping tool.
Nothing on that page shows the single-contact, shielded connector that he's using.

The fancy crimping tool is a must for these.
I got a chuckle out of all the discussion on the Duet connectors. I'm a "connector whore" my position is, you can never have too many connectors or types of connector!

So are you just flattening out the tab and then putting heat-shrink on it post-crimp?
I'm going to try my other Duet board on USB-only tomorrow and see if I get different behavior. If not, off to 12V.

Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
Gene, I'm not sure we are talking about the same thing. I went back and looked at the first post and the PowerPoles are not shown there. I think you must be asking about the attachment to the green connectors? The things with the blue stubby end? Those are ferrules like these: http://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/Pho ... Hwodl18FZw" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They come in all sizes. They also require a special tool that crimps the metal tube into a square around the wire. This then fits the screw fittings of those green connectors nicely and the plastic sleeve end (blue on this size) provides strain relief.

Yep, that's exactly it. HOWEVER, I think tweaking a PowerPole end would achieve the same goal.

Probably but they cost more than the ferrules AND "you can never have too many connectors or types of connectors".

Do you use a specific size of these types of ferrules or do you have an assortment?mhackney wrote:Probably but they cost more than the ferrules AND "you can never have too many connectors or types of connectors".

You need different sizes for different size wires so I bought a pack of each size from eBay. I got the crimper on Amazon.

You gotta love Amazon. They even had a kit of ferrules to buy along with it.
BTW, I tried my other Duet board sans 12v and I get the same results. I've either got two mildly retarded boards, or 12v is *required*.

Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
It doesn't help. As far as I can tell the only thing these two boards actually do is take a firmware upload.
I even went so far as to check my router to see if the MAC address appeared and it doesn't.
"Pissed off" doesn't quite cover my mood right now.

Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
Gene, I don't think I saw answers to these questions:
Are you connecting directly to your computer or through a router?
Is there any chance that the .5 address is already in use?
Are you using straight Ethernet or are you using one of the WIFI bridges to put the printer on wifi?

Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
I'm connected to a 5 port switch that's connected to a 24 port switch that's connected to my router. When it comes to networking, I've got it nailed. (do a whois on 199.254.199.0 - look at the grant date. )
I've since discovered that the board IS working, you just have to be damn fast opening up the terminal window in the arduino IDE. The problem appears that it can't read the config.g file (which is present in the sys directory), so it defaults to the 192.168.1.10 address (and remains unreachable).
So at least the board is functioning and I'm not nearly as likely to fling it like a Shuriken to see if it'll stick in the wall.
Here's the newest message I posted to a 3dprinter mailing list I'm on. (Should've sent it to the deltabots list, but I derped it.)

Here's the newest message I posted to a 3dprinter mailing list I'm on. (Should've sent it to the deltabots list, but I derped it.)
Code: Select all
I just discovered something interesting - I powered up the board without the
SD card inserted and got this:
Cannot initialize the SD card: Card not found
RepRapFirmware Version 1.09r-dc42 dated 2016-01-16
Executing default.g (no configuration file found)... Error, not found
RepRapFirmware is up and running.
Starting network...
Network up, IP=192.168.1.10
In order to get the text, I've got to hit reset and then quickly open up the
serial terminal in the Arduino IDE. I repeated this with the SD Card
inserted and get this:
RepRapFirmware Version 1.09r-dc42 dated 2016-01-16
Executing default.g (no configuration file found)... Error, not found
RepRapFirmware is up and running.
Starting network...
Network up, IP=192.168.1.10
So apparently, I've figured out part of my problem - it's not reading
sys/config.g for some reason. The file IS present.
Suggestions?

Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
That's good. I avoid using USB with Duet, only use it for flashing a new firmware version. This seems like something David would want to know about or might have some info on.

Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
So I just tried the other board that I have - I didn't update the firmware on it. It comes up like this:
RepRapFirmware is up and running.
Starting network
Network up, IP=10.1.10.6Temperature fault on heater 1, T = -273.1
Temperature fault on heater 2, T = -273.1
No ping response on the ip address and the web server isn't responding.
On the off chance I'm having issues with the 5 port switch, I plugged it directly into the 24 and rebooted the board - still no network response and it's MAC address isn't appearing on my router.
I did discover that if I enable newline line endings in the Arduino serial terminal, it will respond to commands like M115. I should've spotted that earlier.

Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
Have you tried a different ethernet cable?
“ Do Not Regret Growing Older. It is a Privilege Denied to Many. ”
Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
It turns out that the issue was the SD card that came with the board. I copied the required files to a brand new card and not only did it properly boot, but the network interface came up as well. Later on I'll try reformatting the original SD card to see if that cures the issue.
Eagle, the cable I was using is one I pulled off a Commodore 64 that I use CommodoreServer.com with, so I knew there was no issue with it.

Re: Duet setup - instructions in progress
Glad to hear you got it sorted. I'm excited to hear your thoughts on the Duet. Don't forget to tune elasticity compensation (M572 Dx[extruder drive number] Sx [value between about 0.05 and 0.2]). I've just got around to tuning it myself, and it's amazing. I guess it's like smoothie's junction deviation or the JKL Advance algorithms (dunno much about them to be honest so I could be wrong).
Basically, it varies the extruder output based on speed changes or sharp corners. It helps alleviate bowden tube messiness as well as allow the extruder to slow down for sharp corners without extruding big blobs on the corners.
