Re: Duet Ethernet connectivity problems

As you are using USB, see https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/USB_ground_loops. Also do not use Repetier host unless you know how to stop it enabling debug.

#4 could be this: https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Network_ ... arge_files.

Re: Tuning Simplify3d Profile

This is w/o retraction.. There is absolutely no artifacts on the print.. Its shiny as can be; no blobs, zits. The Z-seam feels like a small indentation, its not noticeable or even very visible unless you look for it. The only concern is with travel moves (which are set to occur over the interior wa...

Re: Hotend thermistor shorted to heater

Shorts between hot end wiring and thermistors are surprisingly common, which is why we designed the Duet WiFi and Duet Ethernet to withstand them.

Re: scaling in X and Y as it gets taller (z direction travel)

Is your tower spacing exactly the same at top and bottom? A larger spacing at the top would cause shrinkage with increasing height. If it's not that, maybe it's something to do with heat rising from the bed.

Re: Enable strain gauge Z probe?

DC.. to me the collision detection would be a real plus. Collision detection on Delta printers is difficult for two reasons. One is that delta printers are usually designed to print fast. That means that low inductance motors are chosen, which produce less back emf for the motor driver to measure. ...

Re: Issues with artifacts and over extrusion

We're working on a test pattern generator for calibrating pressure advance. Meanwhile a simple way is to print a single walled cube in vase mode at quite a high speed and adjust the pressure advance to get the best corners. There is some information at https://duet3d.dozuki.com/Wiki/Pressure_advance.

What I meant was don't use MC for calibration. Use it for slicing if you are happy with it.

I think hardware leveling could eventually be replaced, with stall detection (stepper drivers and software). .. stallGuard2™ high precision sensorless motor load detection.. this feature might handle bed leveling, replace endstops, and introduce collision detection (which I think should be the firs...

Correct, zeroing of extrusion distance only applies when you use absolute extruder coordinates.

Re: My printer has gotten an attitude.

No need to use Matter Control, the Duet firmware has had least squares calibration built in since early 2015. Just make sure you have the Z probe type set to 0 (P0 in the M558 command in config.g), set up a bed.g file, and command auto calibration form the web interface. See https://duet3d.dozuki.co...

What type of Z probe are you using: FSRs under the bed, or something else?

How many factors did you ask the auto calibration to adjust?

Re: M109 and G29

The "feel" is unlikely to be any different using 24V, except for movement speeds at which 12V is inadequate. See http://reprapfirmware.org to calculate those speeds. However, at 24V the stepper motors may be either quieter or noisier when idle than they are at 12V. Which may depend on how ...

Re: M109 and G29

The motor current you need to get a certain resolution is independent of the supply voltage. The advantage of using a higher voltage (e.g. 24V instead of 12V) is that the stepper drivers can maintain the requested current up to higher speeds.

Re: My printer has gotten an attitude.

You can use any slicer you like, if you export the GCode to file and then upload it to the Duet using the web interface. Some slicers (e.g. slic3r and Cura) have the facility to upload to a Duet themselves after slicing.

Re: Issues with artifacts and over extrusion

If you think you are getting ver extrusion, just use the web interface to reduce the extrusion a little. I find that every roll of filament has a different ideal extrusion factor, and it isn't only due to differences in filament diameter. I think you might also benefit from using either more retract...

Re: Slowing down to debug

I favour 1.75mm filament and extruders with about 3:1 gearing. I've always used 1.8deg motors to drive them, not the 0.9deg motors that E3D suggests for the Titan; however it looks like with 12V power and 0.9deg motors, around 50mm/sec should be achieveable, which is probably sufficient. I blogged a...

Re: Duet and 24v psu question

Bear in mind that a 24V PSU will produce four times the heating power of a 12V PSU. So if you do want to use a 24V PSU then I suggest you turn down the voltage on it as low as possible, which will probably be about 20V. Alternatively, use a 12V PSU turned up to its maximum - typically about 14V, whi...

Re: Slowing down to debug

It doesn't help that the motor in your Titan is 0.9deg, whereas a 1.8deg motor is adequate for a geared extruder. You might like to plug your figures into the motor speed/voltage calculator at http://reprapfirmware.org/.

Re: Firmware for Older 0.8.5 boards

I presume you mean 1.18.2, not 1.8.2. The latest version available is 1.21RC3. I have two reports that using 1.20 or 1.21RC3, older Duets (0.6 and 0.8.5) may fail to start up if you have the IP address set to all zeros so that it uses DHCP and you have the Ethernet cable connected. Unfortunately I a...

Re: Motor Currents?

The Duet can only change the peak stepper motor current in 100mA increments. The firmware is designed so that if you ask for a multiple of 100mA, you get what you asked for. Other values will be rounded up or down. So when trying different stepper motor currents, I suggest you choose multiples of 10...

That pattern of ridges and valleys along the X axis suggest backlash in joints or carriages, making the nozzle height above the bed depend on which direction you approach the XY point from.
