Re: Print Warping

I think I'm having a similar issue to this.. Do you still have the .stl of the shroud you made? Or did you just make something with found bits? Sadly I can't find the STL. It was a bit cobbled together tbh. I've since moved on to a totally different effector design. Here's a picture of what I ended...

Re: Can someone tell me how to correct this print

The first layer extrusion width _should_ be higher than your nozzle diameter. This is what leads to good bed adhesion. Even when printing in subsequent layers, it's a good idea to have your extrusion width higher than the nozzle diameter to account for die swell -- it gives you better layer adhesion...

Re: PEI disaster

It's not a complete disaster, I've removed the 3M tape before. As DerStig mentions, use acetone. You will need some elbow grease and a scraper as well.

Once both surfaces are clean, apply another sheet of 3M adhesive and have another go.

It does. Try bumping up your steps/mm value by 1% and see what happens.

Re: No filament during print

If you're auto calibrating then you have a Z probe, so it's best to also lower the Z probe height as well in eeprom by a small amount. This will mean that when you auto calibrate again, the max Z height will be correct without having to fiddle with it.

Re: Wonky first and last 4 layers or so.

Are you using slic3r? Just be careful about using percentages for extrusion width, this is a percentage of the _layer height_. It makes absolutely no sense to anyone, but there you go. I set all my widths manually to actual mm widths, and then it behaves properly. I use 0.6mm first layer, then 0.4mm...

Re: No filament during print

Agree with djarmag, the nozzle is probably too close on the first layer. Adding to the first layer height won't help, it will be massively overextruded. You need to tell the printer that it doesn't quite have as much Z max height as it thinks it does. You can do this by decreasing Z max length, or i...

Re: Duet Auto-Calibration results - More Data Needed!

@DC42 could a function be added to the firmware to allow individual movement of each tower? Then we could fasten a dial indicator to the carriage and command it to move say 25mm then measure the actual movement to determine your actual steps per mm. Likewise, measuring each tower individually could...

Re: Wonky first and last 4 layers or so.

The main difference between those 4 layers and the rest of the print is that you're also printing top and bottom surfaces. Check to see what your extrusion width and speed is for that, vs infill. This results in changes to perimeter size due to the stored pressure in the bowden. I can't see the shif...

Assuming you're running 80 steps per mm now, I suggest 80.64 steps/mm. As mentioned above, this value still needs tuning but I've found this to be a good starting point.

Re: Duet Auto-Calibration results - More Data Needed!

Nebbian, see my reply above. I believe, and this needs to be validated, that there is more variation in steps/mm (due to belt tension, etc) than the manufactured arm length from printer to printer and that the fudge factor to compensate the steps/mm will be slightly different and unique for each ma...

Re: Duet Auto-Calibration results - More Data Needed!

So, the pattern I have, and see in all the other data contributed to me so far is this. After a full round of calibration, if you re-run the calibration script changing your S6 / S8 to an S-1, there is a wave pattern to the results. It measures higher at the towers, and lower opposite them. What I'...

Hi Tim, What is grid compensation? Is it safe to assume that if I don't know what it is, I've not got it enabled? The only reference to it I could find is http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=111&t=11282. I searched a Gcode file of mine, and none of {M557, G29 G32} are in it. Also, I'm runn...

Re: Dimensional accuracy vs. extrusion volume

I've gone through this as well. It can be very frustrating. Just when you think you've got it sorted out, you print a different part and it's off. In my opinion, your extrusion value of 103.5% is spot on. If your plastic is merging nicely, then that variable is sorted. The last time I calibrated, I ...

Re: Connecting the fans to the hot ends with connectors

Servo connectors (also called DuPont connectors) are great for most things on the hotend. JST's should be fine for the heater... but to be on the safe side, it's better to use an XT30 as mentioned above. I use an XT30 for the heater, servo connectors for everything else on the umbilical. It works fi...

Re: Was shipped a convex-shaped heat bed. Same with the replacement

I recently thought my bed was bowed slightly, but it turned out to be my metal rule! I was using one of the arms on an angle finder, as this was the perfect size to check the bed. Difficult to check easily. Both metal 'rule' arms on the angle finder had the same non-straightness. Eventually I put it...

Remember to tighten the nozzle fully when hot. Tightening when cold results in the behaviour you describe. Also PETG seems to find its way to the threads more easily than other filaments, I've found.

Re: Print Warping

The way the heat break fan is oriented makes it pretty unlikely that it's blowing air on the part. What surprised me was that the air was being flung out from the intake of the fan. There appears to be a bit of turbulence that gets pushed out at about a 45 degree angle, in a cone shape, from the in...

Re: Print Warping

Is your part fan on? It needs to be off (or at a minimal speed) for ABS. Also check that your hotend fan isn't blowing air downwards. I had that issue on my printer, and ended up making a shroud for the hotend fan so that the intake end wasn't flinging air downwards and spoiling one end of the ABS p...

MHackney,

That's really good data. Good luck with your continued analysis.

Out of interest, what sort of repeatability are you getting when using the nozzle probing? ie if you probe the one point 10 times, what is the sort of deviation you're getting on the measured Z height?

Re: 'Home' when reset button is pushed

In Configuration.h, look for the line: #define DELTA_HOME_ON_POWER 1 This will home on power on, and also homes when you press the kill/reset button. You can also kill a job by selecting SD card pause in the LCD menu, which parks the head a bit above the job, and allows you to resume it if required.

Also try measuring the distance between the towers with a caliper. The actual distance between towers isn't important, but the measurement between top and bottom on the same face must be no more than 0.05mm different.

Re: So what did I do wrong?

Conclusions: As the default, uncalibrated settings are fairly flat, albeit way to high and the calibrated settings, while odd, are consistent and describe a mathematical curve I'm inclined to believe that I have no loose or misaligned bits or they would have to be equally bad on all three towers. A...
