Re: Help selecting new computer
It isn't ALL THAT BAD of an idea to back up a hard drive to that same hard drive - - unless you believe in the types of head crashes of the 1970s with the dreaded spiral scratch(fatal). In THIS century we get a few bad spots once in a while, SOME device drivers will detect them and map them out. If ...
CURA
Cura is the recommended slicer for Artemis, so we should probably have a thread for it. I have been using 3.4.1 - which is a bit later than the version mentioned in the Artemis docs. Today I got an automated notice that 3.5 is available - and an invitation to download it. Anyone try this yet, either...

Updateing computer hardware - GPU "needs"
A bit of a tangent, but with fused deposition (AKA 3D printing) comes 3D modelling and once the novelty of printing Yoda heads and sketching up simple geometric forms wears off ...its time to start "Meshing around". Creating 3D models from a stacks of photos (photogrammetry or somesuch nam...

Re: Kit Mods & Safety & Awesomeness
An old thread, I know - and I don't know WHY it is that I didn't jump on it YEARS ago... Anyway, there are fail safe design principles (like Duhh, we knew that already) and for such potential problems as thermal runaway it oesn't seem HARD to implement a design rule along the lines of; Allow power t...

Re: ABS recommendations
I agree the aquanet hairspray WORKS very well, but I have been allowing it to "dry" and then heating the bed to 40 deg C and (because I used to do it on my Max V2) I apply two coats of Elmers disappearing purple. Not sure that the glue ADDS anything, but I don't dare stop using it. BTW, th...

This seems interesting;

Wondering how much of my old Max V2 settings from 4 years ago would port over to Arty ....Hmm, might be worth a try.

Re: 2 Color printing with CURA
That seems like a whole lot more trouble than it would take to modify a slicing program to at least switch extruders for support material and/or at layer numbers.
Anyone know of slicers that CAN do that ?
slic3r for example, or matter control ?

When (& how) to update firmware.
I was looking at github this morning and noticed that there have been a few updates in; SD card files for hotend probe/sys and in; SD card files for hotend probe/www A bit of a struggle (for ME) to figure which "matter" and which don't. Looking for guidance and suggesting that some sort of...

Re: Artemis Linear Rail Mainentance
I had used a "donated" make-up eyebrow brush to put a little grease into the slots where the balls ride. Given the diameter of the balls they will pick up a decent film and distribute it to the rest of the rails if you (for example) just run the bed leveling program. I doubt that I can eve...

Re: Artemis - Build Notes
Not sure if it is mentioned anywhere else, so I'll add it here; Buttoning it all up. OK, so I ran mine "naked" for a while, i.e. without top and bottom covers. I got a few test prints done, including a set of the "nuts" for holding the top cover on instead of the plastic rivets. ...

Re: LED lights found for use on Artemis
Cool indeed. I have been browsing around looking for a tiny web cam to mount on the hot end. Good lighting would help with that. My goal would be to SEE the first layer go down and actually STICK - - and from time to time just peep at the print from across the room, or from a different room if I eve...

Re: Large objects.
The description for "Enable support floor" suggests that this would put down a more solid foundation on the glass, however looking at the first few layers doesn't show any difference - also the print time and amount of filament used don't change, so I doubt that this actually does anything.

Large objects.
Right now I am trying to print a thin object that is too big in two dimensions to lay flat, in fact it is too big to lay on any of its surfaces, so the only way I can get it within the build envelope is to tip it up onto a very short edge. As currently arranged in Cura it is 10 mm x 241.9 mm x 306.8...

I would be interested in that too.
Just having some setting for dual extruders, e.g. both in ABS, one in ABS the other in support material.

Re: Artemis Field Service Bulletin Ground Kit Aug 23rd 2018
Hi, No, my build and config has gone well. For a while (In a previous life) I made a decent living and good reputation for finding and cleaning up ground path issues, so ANYTHING mention of ground changes awakens ghosts. Digital noise on analogue grounds, that sort of thing. When mini computers were...

Re: Artemis Field Service Bulletin Ground Kit Aug 23rd 2018
While I respect this change as a SAFETY modification (& I WILL do it) I would like to know if it will reduce electrical noise and may thereby solve other (perhaps intermittent) problems. Again, I WILL DO THIS when the parts arrive, but I am still troubleshooting my initial build and would like t...

Re: Lubricating linear rails?
So, a couple of months have passed and I am on the edge of ordering an Artemis ARP (or upgrade my V2)
How can I know BEFORE ASSEMBLY whether a fix for this has been phased in, or if I have to get nylon washers locally and file them before assembly ?

Re: On Order
I also have a 4 yer old Max2. I have been inactive in this for a couple of years, last upgrade/update was trick trucks and I don't think I have printed much since then. Started to price out upgrades, SE300 hot-end, etc. Then board upgrade and whatever all else - - wondering about the ACTUAL backward...

Thanks Fletcher.
I like that nema14 solution.
It would probably work better in my little cnc router than the Rostock effecter plate
The cnc router runs grbl, so I'll check into that.

Re: Tower Rotation Calibration, not 90,210,330
Disclaimer; The following is GUESSWORK, since I have NOT attempted any tower alignment on my Rostock V2. With that said, just thinking through this I doubt that I could physically rotate the towers themselves. I might be able to do something by slackening some things off and NUDGING, then tightening...

Re: Drag knife.
If one wants no offset at all, controlling the blade is necessary. A servo is a good idea, and would work in most cases. But a servo also has a rotation limit. It cannot rotate more than XX°, XX often being a bit more than 360°. That means you would not be able to cut a snail shape.... unless you p...

Re: Drag knife.
Why drag it? A cheapo servo could rotate it. I agree, if I were striving for "perfection" a little bit of path look-ahead could indeed aim a knife in the intended direction of cut. It is quite possible that this is matured knowledge at some high end machines. I am being selfish, for MY wa...

Re: Drag knife.
Thanks, I had found the Rockcliff site before but didn't find (&still haven't found) the 0.25mm offset spec. That may well be close enough to zero that it approximates zero. Of course as it approaches zero the blade will "caster" less effectively. On the cost issue; I had hoped for som...

Re: Drag knife.
if you are worried about drag offsets with software, im sure you can manually drag the lines past the intersection of issue and do a seperate lead in/out for each line segment. doesnt seem like this guy is having any need or issues with.
