Filament Spools

For empty spools I bought some of these: http://www.filabot.com/collections/frontpage/products/empty-filament-spool I realized by looking at them and seeing the stiffness of the filament that these would not work well for holding filament. The main issue is the hub size is too small. These spools ar...

Anyone seen this? http://repables.com/r/143/

Notice who made this model. When I get my machine up and running I may have to test these out.

Re: HotEnd Resistors Silicone Alternative ??!?

Update on JB Weld holding thermistor: When I hold my hand on the aluminum of the hot end (off of course) I can watch the temperature change on the NOZ reading very fast. So the sensitivity of the thermistor seems to be good. I am getting reasonable concurrence of temperature between my NOZ and BED ...

Re: HotEnd Resistors Silicone Alternative ??!?

Since JB Weld and the glass thermistor are weaker than carbide steel, then I can just drill and re-tap the hole. The only reason I tapped the hole in the first place is because it a convenient way to roughen the surface for the epoxy. There is nothing permanent about it. In addition there is the opt...

Missing 2 x 1" Pan Head Screws

Okay, this is weird. I ended up missing 2 x 1" Pan Head screws. What is really weird is this is the step where you mount the brackets to the display board. However, I have a bag with 2 x 1" Flat Head screws and 2 x nylon/steel nuts. So is this just a case of a screwy mix up? I don't need t...

Re: HotEnd Resistors Silicone Alternative ??!?

Alright, I am going to try using JB Weld (2 part version) that handles 550F according to package. In places online it says 600F so I am guessing the 550F is a CYA statement on the package. 550F is 287C Celcius. So that should be enough. If not I will report back. Also, I took a 4-40 tap and tapped t...

Re: HotEnd Resistors Silicone Alternative ??!?

don't trust it as an adhesive on it's own I am assembling my hot end (putting wires on it) and the thermistor popped out. I don't think the rtv is a good solution for holding it in. It is not act like it was "stuck" to the metal at all. I am thinking I may get some JB weld to hold it in. ...

Re: Running Different Voltage on Steppers (Rambo or others)

Even better: get a MIG torch on there with a little computer control over the wire feed and have yourself a metal printer. Ooh, I will talk to my mechanical engineer friend and see what we can do. That does sound like fun! I did think of one thing running a non-standard voltage "might" be...

Re: Running Different Voltage on Steppers (Rambo or others)

You are right. Maybe this is not a good application for this. I forget my plasma cutter is like %99 carbon steel tubing. Good point on the extra torque might cause issues with the framework. I am mainly electrical so I tend to assume some things. I thought I saw things on this like missed steps beca...

Running Different Voltage on Steppers (Rambo or others)

A few years ago myself and a friend built a plasma table using a hand plasma torch, stepper motors, some stepper drivers (Gecko), and a 4'x4' metal table. We found out that running at higher voltages and low current (within wattage rating of the steppers) we could get more rigidity, speed, etc. We s...

Re: 3D Printing in 3 Dimensions

The question is how is the patent worded? If it is specific to 3D printing (as in additive printing) and the software produces G-code then anyone could write software to create tool paths if they don't describe the end use (this avoids process patents). So software patents for 3D printing tech could...

Re: Makerbot 5th Generation: Slop and Wiggle

Are you serious? Several thousands dollars for that? I would be better off buying a Taig CNC Mill, putting my extruder and hot plate on it and calling it good. Which is one option I looked at before settling on the Rostock. I would end up with a nice CNC metal mill and a 3D printer.

Re: If you're curious why I turned lurker.

I vote some weird fungus or single celled amoeba that eats cardboard and then blows up leaving no residue while spreading is spores. Either that or an alien escaped its packing and is eating any biologics or biologically based material (poly). In either case: it is ancient, scary, and you need The D...

Re: Assembly manual discussion thread!

Okay, I got the inner plate direction of the cheapskate wrong on all 3 assemblies. The reason I got it wrong is because I thought the manual was telling me that I should line up the inner plate with the eyes pointing to the right, then attach the plastic piece to the front of the inner piece in that...

Re: If you're curious why I turned lurker.

I used to do a lot of government nuclear work. A burp like that is really not that significant, but it always gets blown out of proportion. You will get way more uptake with all sorts of radionuclides at a coal fired plant. You have to take it seriously, but it really makes everyone run around like ...

Hello from SouthEast Idaho, USA

Hello everyone! I am mid build on a Rostock Max V2. I do robotics engineering and controls integration. I needed a 3D printer to make custom electrical boxes for inside tight spaces. So I experimented with 3D printing services. Way too expensive so I purchased a Rostock. The more I research about 3D...
