Re: Stripped Belts

I would check the teeth on the drive gear to make sure they have no sharp edges. That's what got me.

You will never, ever get them out if you use JB Weld. It's one of the best epoxies I've ever used and unless you've got a chisel, it's _forever_. :)

Re: Is there a tuning guide?

There's a lot of what I do - face planting on the learning curve. I'm surprised that I haven't broken my nose yet. If you find some tidbit you want to "immortalize", by all means let me know and I'll stick it in the manual with a credit to the submitter for it. The more data we get the eas...

Re: Hotend seperated.

It was a volunteer effort that wasn't solicited by them at all. I wrote the manual because I couldn't find one. Considering the number of errors vs the page count and the fact that it was the first printer I was even in the physical presence of, I think I did a pretty good job. If you think you can ...

I emailed him about that when I first signed up. You can stick whatever you want in there - it apparently is a default part of the shopping cart and he hasn't (or doesn't know how to) removed it yet.

Re: Acrylic Rostock with Enclosure

Thanks. That clears up things immensely. I'm not taking the bottom off my machine to install the LCD door, so I'll have to create a new mount that I can use on the existing electronics door.

Re: I just got some interesting Info from Permatex

I'm confused then. I know of no point on a Rostock MAX where thermal paste would be of any benefit whatsoever.

Re: Hotend seperated.

IR probes are great for ballpark readings, but to my understanding they don't have the accuracy of a thermocouple.

I don't work for SeeMeCNC - I'm just a satisfied customer with an ugly writing habit. :D You'll have to discuss the hot-end replacement directly with them. :)

Re: I just got some interesting Info from Permatex

Keep in mind that the RTV is used to hold things in place and its thermal properties are only important in that it doesn't degrade at high temperature. The tiny amount that forms a barrier between the thermistor and the hot-end material isn't enough to cause significantly inaccurate temperature read...

Re: Acrylic Rostock with Enclosure

I need to cut a set of parts to mount the LCD to the elecronics door. Since you're using those same components, do you have pics of how it goes together? It's not clear at all from the part drawings.

tnx!

Re: Rostock MAX Assembly Manual

The acrylic is fantastic for showing off the machine and neat details like the belt path. It will drive you out of your mind for daily use. My understanding is that it cracks easily. The machine hosting the docs went loopy yesterday and I wasn't able to get my wife to reboot it until later in the mo...

Re: RainBot Filament Review

I've printed one part (90 minute print time) with the Natural PLA I bought from them last week. It appears to be good material, BUT the rolls are too wide to fit the spool holder on the Rostock MAX. You'll need to build some kind of adapter rig if you want the spool in the right spot.

Re: Hotend seperated.

Done. I had listed 240C elsewhere, but that 260 slipped by somehow.

I've also added a notation to use 190C for PLA (this is what I've been using with good results).

I'd also verify the thermistor reading with a thermocouple probe.

Re: Hot end jams

I'd pull it apart and check the teflon liners. I've had issue in the past with the inner liner being overheated and it shrinks a bit. You should be able to thread filament through the inner liner with little or no drag at all. If you get any, replace it.

Re: Limit Switches.

My ShopBot uses prox switches. I don't know what the repeatability is with them though - I don't use them for zeroing the machine any longer.

As long as it's adjustable and has excellent repeatability, I don't care what we use. *laughs*

Re: Dual extruders

You really don't need to open the electronics door unless you might need to reset the RAMBo or plug in the USB cable, so I figure it's not that big of a deal to have the door blocked by an extruder. I do need to find a way to mount my LCD to the electronics door though - I'm kind of tired of it just...

Version 1.12 is now available.
This update covers positioning of the LCD and electronics doors in order to avoid problems with the future installation of a second extruder.

Re: Dual extruders

The placement of the doors is the same as the original Rostock MAX build - no LCD door was available at that time. if you don't want to mess around with moving the doors, there's no reason you can't use the extruder mount point that's directly across from the "Default" location, between th...

You need to make sure that you've got the nozzle height at the base of each tower set correctly. The layer thickness change you're seeing may be due to a big error on one or more towers. The infill error you're seeing is nearly identical to what I had going on - it was only recently discovered (by m...
