Re: Adapting the ROSTOCK Max to a laser cutter
Don\t know a lot about this laser cutting topic but I may have seen some small once on eBay - they looked like they can fit quite nicely on the printer. This is a new research project for me, I am in the beginning stage of gathering info and examining the benefit, if any. Linky to some you have fou...

Not seen the Octoprint.org
Not thinking of fully automate just something you could set-up say to hire to a school for the day that have several models on a SD card ready to print.
(Just me thinking of was to make money and fund buying/building a 3d printer lol)

Hire a 3d Printer?
Do you think this could work. Say if the auto levelling side of things works. And you work out the best settings of a standard material like PLA only? My thinking is, build a Rostock, calibrate it for PLA, use the auto levelling thingy that's in progress then hook up a RiPi and a touch screen so you...

Re: Modding DXF files
May have to rethink the whole "I'm going to build a RostockMAX" to a "i'm building a easy to build 3D Printer" for now as i'm having trouble finsding a company to cut the frame in wood, all the "hobbyist" services don't have a laser cutter big enough for the 440mm diame...

Re: Making an aluminum base and top, Need Your Feedback
It occurred to me that since some folks are buying these in the EU without the melamine, maybe there's a market too. That would be nice but the price you were thinking plus shipping and possible tax would make it cheaper to buy the kit :) Keep us posted as if i haven't started making mine i may be ...

Re: Modding DXF files
Yeah going to adjust all tabs across the 3 dxf files.
Had a thought and might even convert these into 3d models so i can do a virtual assembly and check alinement.

OK so i'm looking at modding the DXF sheets so I can E-mail them off to some laser cutters for a quote. Apart from the Tabs and Slots (as shown in image) to I need to mod any other things to accommodate a 6mm thickness? (remember i'm in UK so looks like MDF will be the frame material) [img]http://ww...

3D printer uses
So what sort of things does your 3d printer get used for?
I was going to build one coz I can and to offer prototype service in Mid Wales (UK) as most are London based.
But are peeps using it for commercial uses or just for fun coz they can

Just a quick general question.
Can you paint over PLA/ABS after you've printed stuff (not straight after but when cool and dry)?

Re: Hello from the UK
Yeah looks like 6mm or 9mm is the common sizes.
I'm not going to buy a kit as i'm planning to spread the cost over 4-6months and build it bit by it. So it's going to be a full DIY project.

Hello from the UK
All all. I'm Neil (aka Hobbit) and a live in sunny (well at the moment it is) Wales in the UK. I really really really ... etc want to build my own 3d printer and like the Rostock design. But can't find suppliers for some of the parts like the RAMBo boards :(. Anyway that's for me to solve lol Though...
