Re: Duet 8.5 Groundwire overheating

Just to throw out a little big extra info, (geneb gives true advice again  )I should have noted, that I meant pre-tinned wire specifically. Those who can tin the wires in the proper fashion theirself also know they can disregard the recommendation and not speak of it 8-) Re-tightening is good e...

Re: PCB smart effector and carriage adapters for Haydn Huntley's rods

I'm using custom printed adapters on trick laser trucks (max metal) to pair it with an UMBEE. I want to note that the uniformity of spacing matching on the effectors to carriage mounts are brutally important, the result of the calculations still haunt me. My max metal is doing great with an UMBEE ef...

Re: Duet 8.5 Groundwire overheating

If you're using stranded wire, I'd highly recommend using ferrules (a type of crimped connector) with screw terminals. I know it takes yet another tool, but the reasons we crimp / tin / plate our connections are inescapable and screw terminals are really intended to be used with them. Once you strip...

Is your printer covered ? I had similar issues that occurred when the print got a certain distance away from the bed. It was great related, but I ended up testing by covering with a trash bag or cardboard stabilize temperature.

Re: Printed Parts Not square

One of the things I did the last time I went all perfectionist on re-aligning my Rostock V1, I made a holder that I zip tied a cheap laser pointer to (and repeatedly made sure all the other efforts were squared up as I could possibly make it). Then I slapped a toothpick into a glob of clay (squared ...

Re: Endstops, is Hall Effect an Upgrade?

Ugh, I hate walking away and having my post eaten. For me, homing on the mechanical switches hammered the printer so that it would shift around over time (or it'd take longer than I wanted to home), the switches themselves drift over time with wear, and later while I was testing Z-Probe micro switch...

Re: Endstops, is Hall Effect an Upgrade?

I wrote a huge post and the forum imp ate it with pics and all. Short version, Yes they're an upgrade. I have the amico 3144 hall effect sensors installed, just took all three pins straight to the board, nothing fancy. There's a newer version of that sensor, it has a faster response time (is a plus)...

Re: Rostock Max V2 ultra level frustrations

Bah, there's always braided ground strap you can run cables in and that's inexpensive stuff. Personally I'm thinking of getting some CAT 7 patch cable to chop up and make my wiring nicer. CAT 7 has each twisted pair shielded in foil as well as a braided shield over all the pairs. Even if I go cheap ...

Nice to see people giving this a go. I started to do the same and the settings working but called it quits when it came to the exclusion areas being hard coded and not wanting to leave watching the print area to my future self (thank you past self). I'll see if I can find where I got the center 0,0 ...

Re: Rostock Max V2 ultra level frustrations

It's late for me, and this is all guess work so take it with a brick of salt, and I've had my Rostock V1 for several years now (but really just the skeleton at this point...yay mods!). I see two likely issues, one is the endstops. Mine lost precision from homing too fast and knocking them around. Th...

Soo... I'm that guy for the retract settings on PETG. The retract itself is 3mm @ 100.0 mm/s with the return at 30 mm/s. The extruder acceleration is also at 1000. The fast retract got rid of my blobs though. I threw together these for fast tests of the the retract settings. boxretractioncal.jpg box...

It does get clogged, but you're right that it's most likely just the tension shifting. If you are interested in swapping out the hobbed gear you might want to check out this article that does a comparison of various ones. http://airtripper.com/1676/3d-printer-extruder-filament-drive-gear-review-benc...

Re: e3d v6 fan noise

Here's some 12V 2-wire fans I pulled narrowed down on digikey the other day. Most are Sunon fans which I am tempted with the MC30151V1-000U-A99 (6 CFM, 27 dB(A), 0.65W) but it is 15mm thick. There's another that's 10mm thick but it's 34.7 dB(A) 1.08W (?!) for the same 6CFM (although it does have a h...

Here's another example. I used the cheapskate.scad from Xnaron's github as the base. You can modify the ball_sep variable from 46 to probably 50 mm without modifying the file further. Right now it's set to 48mm.

Re: Vertical Banding Revisited

Yep, which leaves you with a couple fixes. One is you can decrease the bulge by increasing your jerk setting (which might also affect the perimeter to infill adhesion) or simply avoid all that add another perimeter that will be less affected by the infill.

I didn't bother changing my filament from the clear I was using...so pictures aren't turning out well. Still, preliminary result is that at least for me, it appears to be mechanical since there is little difference between 100 and 300 segments per second, but going faster increases the distance betw...

It helped when I went to 0.9° steppers, I also moved to the smoothie-board at the same time. Here's the weird thing though. I still get banding along the one of the axis occasionally and not the other. It is likely a combination issue, where the most prominent cause is going to change depending on v...

I saw the green props and thought you printed them for a second. Seems like the sorta thing that would be ideal for rapid prototyping, trying different attack angles, length, and widths. Not something you'd want to delaminate under strain mid-flight though...
