Re: How-to: Dimensional Accuracy Calibration for Delta Printers
Consider that a 50x50mm solid box has 122 times more XY area than one side of a single-walled 50x50mm box. I would expect to see more positional errors pile up given the increase in area. In Delta printers, there is generally more positional error between two points the further they are from each ot...

Well, this is a significant find. I always thought Moire patterns were a necessary artifact of using Delta printers, and you could only eliminate them with some crazy high-res steppers. You've really got something here.

Re: Effects of microstepping and segmentation on print qualty
Setting the layer height to a multiple of the golden ratio (once you figure out how much distance a full step takes) spreads the peaks out enough that they stop being visible. Based on Bruce's last few prints, it looks like the Golden Ratio idea works pretty well. I see only straight lines, with li...

That's really eye-opening!nebbian wrote:The only difference between these two prints was that the one at the top left has had the ROSC pin on that single A4988 driver shorted to ground. All other settings were the same.

Re: Effects of microstepping and segmentation on print qualty
The Golden Ratio idea is really cool! To reduce these artifacts, I recommend upgrading to 400-step motors (0.9 degrees/step) and upgrading to a 32-bit controller with better drivers. Smoothieboard and Duet both offer that. I've used both, and while they have different step generation algorithms, I c...

Re: New with a pile of parts
I got an acrylic MAX v1 in December 2012, and I can confirm that the acrylic likes to split! SeeMeCNC was kind enough to send me some replacement parts when this happened. Unfortunately, even if carefully assembled, the top plate can develop cracks after awhile, and it looks like yours has already d...

With the caveat that I haven't done work for injection molding (which I assume is what she wants), show her this and let me know if she's interested. If it's just for a mock-up, I might be able to do it. If needed, I can print samples on my Form 2 in whatever resin she wants. New Effector (F360).jpg

Will this board have a dedicated header for the PanelDue, or will it be plugging in one wire here and another there? I didn't use the PanelDue for very long, but I thought it was great.

Re: injection mold machine
Formlabs' high-temp resin is rated for 289C at 0.45MPa. I wonder how it would stand up to thousands of shots of ABS. According to this, it is recommended for injection molding, and also not recommended for injection molding!

SeeMeCNC's Ultralex is pretty good for PLA. GeckoTek is good for PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU, and nylon (requires different surface) - but it scratches very easily, and a new disc is ridiculously expensive. Kapton tape is cheaper. Glue on glass is very easy, and once cleaned, the glass is the best surface f...

Re: Trick Laser MAX METAL Build
That thought had crossed my mind. IM is an option for a mature product (doesn't need any design changes) with enough market to justify producing 100s or 1000s at a time. Getting the molds cut for something like that would cost somewhere in the five-figure range, if I'm not mistaken, plus whatever th...

Re: Trick Laser MAX METAL Build
So if you're interested in sharing the design at this point pilot, I could design a set of setups to do it on a standard 3 axis machine. The machine only has 5" of Z, and the part would have to be mounted at a 45-degree angle, so it could be tight. Also, my driver box isn't talking to the comp...

Re: Trick Laser MAX METAL Build
They wanted over $400 to do a very basic version with no trim, and over $600 to do the "ornate" version you see here. That's just for bare aluminum. It was still more to get it anodized. Unless I want to sell printer parts exclusively to rich people, it just wouldn't make sense. I still wa...

Re: Trick Laser MAX METAL Build
Looks like the 5-axis idea is out of the question. The site I was using to get a quote has an idiosyncrasy that can make you think you're getting the price for machined 6061 aluminum, when you're actually getting the price for sintered nylon. 5-axis machining is too expensive for this, for the time ...

Re: Why?
They should add options to leave out things like the controller, motors, power supply, and hot end. This would be pretty great for a backup printer, but like mhackney says, I don't use 1.8-degree motors anymore, and I'd rather bring my own controller and hot end.

Re: Trick Laser MAX METAL Build
Those look pretty neat, and I admire the idea of using PCBs. The PCB effector only supports center-feed, 1-in 1-out hot ends, but I want to be able to support Cyclops and Diamond hot ends, so that won't work for me. His parts may be lighter than mine, but mine will be made from aircraft aluminum, so...

Re: Trick Laser MAX METAL Build
why not sls nylon? I spoke to Shapeways about this. I asked them what dimensional accuracy I could expect, and they said 5%. That's okay for printing statuettes, but obviously no good for a precision part. As the part cools, it wants to contract, so you can have places that will shrink a little. Th...

One of it's major corrosion/biological inhibitors (Since it does both), is honey. Interesting facts about honey: It used to be used to disinfect wounds (because the high sugar content dessicates almost anything that tries to grow in it), and you can't give it to infants because it can contain clost...
