Re: Xnaron Printable Magnetic u-joint option for Rostock Max

I got outstanding results from the magnetic arms but my first set was starting to look a bit worn after many, many days of use. I had planned to redo them using nylon for the cups and the pre-tapped balls linked in this thread; however, I had a sample of the Igus Tribo filament that seemed too perfe...

Re: Anyone tried Coex?

I bought a couple spools from them last year. I tried their iridescent purple PLA and another polymer that I can't quite recall at the moment and appears to be no longer offered (PET based IIRC). The iridescent purple is very cool and produced great results for me. I still have a bit left and plan t...

Re: Xnaron Printable Magnetic u-joint option for Rostock Max

I am looking for someone who completed the Xnaron arms and used the geared stepper motor for the extruder. Specifically I am looking for the steps per mm that you used to drive the geared stepper. Thanks to anyone who would be able to share the number that they used. I did run a geared extruder for...

Re: E3D V4 All metal hotend

Thanks Sanjay, good to see you here again :) I'll go through your list and give feedback on each step: - Heatsink. I check periodically, but even the lowest fin is probably not above body temperature. I have to say that heat seems to be the most likely culprit in this, since most prints will run fo...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments

Argh! I received some other product from CS Hyde in error yesterday... I have my aluminum plate ready to go and I was looking forward to laminating it. They're going to ship what I ordered today. Looks like it'll be a couple more days for me. Eaglezsoar: Just how aggressive is that adhesive? I was p...

Re: E3D V4 All metal hotend

From what I've read, printing PLA with an all-metal hot end can be problematic for the most part. Personally, I'd use a hotends.com J-Head for PLA and the all-metal for ABS and other high-temp materials. g. I've had 24+ hour pla prints on my e3d without a hint of a problem. I've also not had a sing...

Re: E3D V4 All metal hotend

Were you able to assess the components' alignment while you had it disassembled? How about to test for any points where the filament may be catching or meeting friction while the path was clear and everything cold? I'm curious now as my symptoms were exactly as you're describing and prints came out ...

Re: E3D V4 All metal hotend

McSlappy: I was having a problem that sounds like yours a while back with the E3D v4. For me the problem was poor alignment of the heat break and the aluminum upper piece creating a lip that increased friction as filament pushed past it. My best guess is that the warm, gummy, slightly expanded PLA w...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments

I misspoke earlier - the adhesive backed sheet I ordered from CS Hyde is .003". That sure seems like it should fit the bill.

I'm interested to see how it holds up being so thin, but it's great that we have a source with thicker options if needed.

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments

I ordered a .03 sheet for a more permanent application and I plan to try adhering it to an aluminum plate with 3M 90 spray adhesive. It's rated to 250*F, which doesn't give as much margin as would be ideal but should suffice for my use if it holds through the range. I'll post results when available....

Hey folks, Dropping in to share my experience so far. I ordered the .09 sheet last week and returned home to it last night after some travel. I regretted ordering the thicker sheet shortly after it shipped, but I have it now and at last check we had cleaned out Amazon of the .03 stock, so I might as...

That spiderbot and its parts are pretty. I might have to look more into them. Did you check out their PEI bed? Sounds interesting; I'll have to research that material. I wonder what are its dimensions. Nice find!

Re: Xnaron Printable Magnetic u-joint option for Rostock Max

Maybe I'm very lucky but I must have 700 hours on my magarms and I've had zero issues.

With that said, I really wanted to use Delrin from the start, and even though my glued ball ends are holding up fine, of course I'd prefer a stud. So you could count me in for a set if you make them.

Thanks!

Re: calibration issue

When you leave the extrusion width set to 0, Slic3r will choose a width it thinks is appropriate on it's own. You got the wall to measure 0.55 but the problem is you don't know what thickness the slicer was going for. Leaving the extrusion widths set to 0 might be fine if you're trying a normal prin...

Re: calibration issue

That bottom layer almost looks like a raft rather than a solid layer. You might want to confirm in your slicer whether you have a raft enabled. If that's not it and you're using Slic3r, what is your setting for the first layer extrusion width?

In your experience have you seen this working well enough to be a permanent solution? Which would you recommend, the ...

Re: Printing with Line trimmer

Yellow produced a nice green, and red gave a good lucking purple. As for the tie dye, well, this makes me happy. Used a cup of vinegar this time with about one cup of water and did leave it to simmer for about 30 minutes.

Re: Printing with Line trimmer

I essentially did that, just pre-heating the line in a separate pot. So I put ~100*C trimmer line in a pot of ~100*C dye, which was then taken off heat. Are you saying you keep the pot boiling for the 15 minutes that you're waiting for the dye to set? And cope413: yes, with the yellow dye the desire...

I had a partial success with my black dye job. I followed RichRap's post and pre-heated the nylon in boiling water and didn't use vinegar. I let it sit for about 45 minutes.
