Re: What is your experience with the HE280 hotend?

I just changed to the E3D V6 and I can tell it's going to work much better. Some of the trouble with my HE280 was likely a chain of problems caused by my assembly. Some of the improvement might also be coming from the 0.4mm nozzle instead of the 0.5mm on the HE280. I used this mount it was spot on p...

Re: One Hell of a time with stringing

It's very common to have a "hockey puck" because the bowden tube didn't make it all the way down.

Lessons learned - 400 hour tear down

So I'm at 400 hours of printing on my V3 and I just did a fairly detailed tear down and inspection of the print head (I'm replacing it with e3d). I noticed a few things worth mentioning. First: Early on I had a hockey puck and major stringing. I turns out that did some damage to the bowden tube (and...

Print shifting to the side - belt tension?

I have several parts of various sizes in a single print job. The center most part is shorter than the rest and the job will fail consistently as the center part finishes. All the other parts will shift about 1mm. Is this belt tension?

Re: So many strings

I had extreme stringiness and it was caused by the bowden tube not being fully seated. I had a 2mm "hockey puck". Once I cleared that up I have hair (very, very fine strings). It also caused me to have to run the head hotter than I do now. If I go slow I can get it to extrude around 180 de...

Iron Giant Bolt

There are versions of this on Thingiverse but I wanted to make my own. This one is done from scratch in Tinkercad. I had to write a shape generator for the threads so I got a little bonus learning. Throw a little paint on it and it turned out fairly nice. Tinkercad's sphere model is kind of low reso...

Re: [Solved] Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

Attached are sample .factory files for S3D to print part of the P-51 Mustang. That is just what I needed! Thanks for the help. And thanks for the heads up on Golden West Super Solvent. I bagged the P47 and P51 on his Christmas sale. I'm starting with the P47. You are running the perimeter at 130 mm...

Share a factory file - That would be awesome. Anything that will improve durability is great. Thanks

Re: Max v3 enclosure finally done

>in fact the heat on the bowden tube causes PLA to pre-soften too much At work (on Makerbots) they made a tubing tee. The tee allows them to join a fish tank air pump to the filament tube to pump room air down the bowden tube to keep the filament cool in the heated enclosure. I think there is a blee...

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

Thanks for everyone for all the good advice. So I've learned several things here: 1) My bowden tube wasn't all the way down. I followed Zob's excellent post to fix it. Here is his post: As Noircogi says this is likely an issue with the Bowden tube not being pushed into the hot end far enough. I had ...

Grill ornament

I spent the holiday fixing up a 2003 Honda Accord for my daughter. I had to put a new grill on it and it was $25 just for the fancy logo. So I printed and painted my own. It's the first print from my Rostock Max V3. Not bad.

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

So that wing half was printed with 1.5mm retract, 25mm/s, 4mm lift, 0.2mm extra, coast of 0.5mm. Hairy.

I'm doing the next wing segment with 2.5mm retract, 50mm/s. Change all the variables at once, that's my moto ;)

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

I printed one wing section. The outer shell has no voids but it is a little variable in its xy placement. I have no idea what would cause that. It is also stringy. Oddly enough this forum won't allow .fff files so I'll call it .txt, rename it. The part weighs in at 1 gram less than expected. IMG_201...

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

They use Simplify3D at work so I spent the morning making the fff file for my Rostock Max V3. Printing with S3D totally fixes the voids problem. Now I have a bit too much stringiness but no globbing or zits. I'm going to let one of the wing sections run to completion to see how it turns out.

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

So 3dlabprint has some test parts that people can try. They have videos (links in the pdf manuals) that show how to configure the various slicers for their prints.

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

Here is what a mean; from Kisslicer it doesn't seem to know about the interior ribs/spars. When it generates the G-code it creates a segmented perimeter with loads of retracts on the filament and nothing on the interior. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

Already tried it - I cant figure out how to get it to slice AND include the ribs/spars. So how do I set it up to for a hollow object, that contains hollow interior objects, with no top or bottom surfaces?

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

I'm running out of ideas. I can get simple test cases to print great but the wing is a complex mess of retracts and moves that has voids. Is there a slicer that gives more control over the slicing process? I think if the outer skin could be kept as one continuous series of moves it could work.

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

I wondered if tool path ordering is contributing to this problem. So I rotated the wing 180 on the bed (guessing that would generate a very different tool path). The first 10 layers drew very differently and worked great. I thought I had it licked. Then it "reverted" to "fly off half ...

Re: Print 3dlabprint Airplanes and Rostock Max - any success?

@timskloss - I'll have a go at that. As an additional test (to save time and plastic) I created two cylinders 200mm apart and 15mm dia x 3mm tall (that re-creates LE to TE distance). Same settings as above. They look fairly good to me (the photos show the near and far cylinders). The only blobbing I...
