Re: 300 C+ HOTEND
There is a new dual 1.75/3 mm 500C hotend coming out, going to kickstarter this month. I see there is also somebody that is coming out with some alloy hot end nozzle that they are claiming is better than stainless steel. Re: E3D V6 Printer Head Mod!
Don't know if this post is old and people have found out by now, but the E3D V6 hot end goes easily on top of the base plate, and gains a few millimeters of clearance. There are a lot of these mounts around for the Rostock Max V2. You just 3D print one before swapping. They might need some adjustmen...

Re: PETG 0.8mm Layer Height
I like PETG but it has unique characteristics to make it better for some applications than others. A big one is the translucency, very nice lighting effects with light projected through it. It also has good springy strength. It isn't very good for very fine details, there is always a very small bubb...

Re: 300 C+ HOTEND
It is becoming a problem with 20+ hour prints. No way I am going to stay awake watching it and also know anything can go kablooie at any time. I am going to look into a UPS that can be monitored by smartphone app, switched off remotely and have a cloud webcam. Plug the power brick into that For the ...

Re: 300 C+ HOTEND
Your work shows years of machining and CAD experience, very awesome. I am starting to think about an external power supply brick with a regular power supply rather than a nerfed PC power supply (says ATX right on the box). One thing I am learning over a long time is that 3D printing is not for the o...

Re: Calibration pyramid
Yeah, there are a lot of pyramids on thingiverse that could be used as calibration standards rather than the 20mm cube. I choose the 3cm wireframe since it tests adhesion without a filled in base. Also, the base has to be slightly mashed to get good adhesion. I also try to mash the layers just sligh...

Yes, this one, it is a little over 1 inch per side.

Calibration pyramid
I use the truss pyramid for calibration tweaking. It tests a lot more than a cube, or flat pattern, and it only takes 23 minutes versus 18 for a calibration cube. After doing about 100 cubes, it occurred to me, it tests corner adhesion but it mostly tests in-fill, which doesn't have that much tweaki...

Re: Card hand
It depends on the build. I have had perimeter failures in more detailed areas with 20%. I usually use 30% as the best compromise between build time/strength. I use 50% for more weight and rigidity, something standing. This is a 30% fill to keep build time down but still have some heft in the hand. T...

Card hand
This is kind of a quick tweaking test, checking how much detail can be maintained. ABS, 230, 50% infill, about 2 hours. Still struggling with trying to get rid of the slightest amount of stringing, even though it sands off pretty easy.

Re: 300 C+ HOTEND
Not dissing kit machines, just saying, look at the power supply. Surplus PC power supply might have a tough time with the increased current for polycarbonate and PEEK. The stock arms are slightly wobbly and this makes stringiness hard to control. And yeah, you have to get a new hot end first, at the...

Re: 300 C+ HOTEND
These are cutting edge for FDM and probably need more specialized 3D printers than a kit level. polycarbonate 315 ptfe 327 peek 343 Airwolf has a polycarbonate hot end that can still be used with PLA and ABS. Probably using a thermocouple instead of thermistor. They are using a PEEK isolater. http:/...

Re: 3D printed motor/generator
Nice. It is derived from one that was uploaded to thingiverse or instructables. It shows the Bedini effect where the coils moving past the permanent magnet produce a charging current. It will raise the voltage above the battery cutoff voltage but friction and I2R loss eventually drains the battery b...

Re: Upper teeth
3D systems and Stratsys have a line of dental 3D printers. They are mainly for making molds from dental scans. The pipeline is still being worked out but the dental labs are going to shrink. The print was mainly a test of PolyMax, not intended for final use although it would be just fine for costume...

Re: All Metal Extruder
Nice machine work. Good info on flex filament experiences. Yeah, the Max V2 has the least costly parts possible. Right now, the buy-in on a good quality 3D printer is $1000. So, the V2 is built of parts that ask to be upgraded. The stock hot end needs to be upgraded with one that can reach 300 max f...

Re: Alien Facehugger
Nice job. Post processing and finishing are what can make 3D print builds final objects. Being able to paint the finished pieces removes the complexity of multi color filaments and careful sanding, heat gun, and primer coating can make prints look fantastic. This is a build that is done in parts and...

Re: Yesterday's build
Right, a visor. It is funny how the supports end up looking like Jordi's glasses and they have a structure on their own that would be almost impossible to do deliberately. The Max V2 is at a good build volume for many full size functional build wearables.

Yesterday's build
This is a build from last night, ABS, a little over 2 hours, with E3D V6 hot end. I finally figured out the hemisphere correction sequence and have ABS staying rock hard flat and even on that all important first trace. I am testing all the limits of Max V2 build volume now, multiple projects. It is ...

Aloha from Hawaii
Introducing myself as new owner and operator of Rostock Max V2. Got the kit a couple months ago, so there is an even newer version now. I am an electronics engineer and opening that box was one of the most intimidating experiences ever, intense excitement mixed with intense fear. I have 3 years hand...
