If not MatterControl, then...?

What's a good alternative printer control SW to MatterControl? Running a Max v2 with a Windows 7 PC. Asking because MCv2 has lost my new Materials, print settings, etc. twice in the last week. One of those days included about seven hours of tweaking settings to try printing in PETG (ultimately unsuc...

Max V2 works, but this connector can't be right

Rostock MAX V2 has been printing fine for last several months - extruder heats to 235 deg C for ABS, bed was working at 90 deg C. Today the bed wouldn't heat up at all, so pulled out the RAMBO board to see if any fuses blown. Attached is a pic of the main power connector. Note the melted plastic - t...

Re: EZstruder "backslip" problem?

I did tighten the nozzle at temp... I think it was around 210 or so. Held the heater block with a wrench while tightening. And that's why I was surprised to see leakage. I actually had no trouble removing the heat break after all had cooled down.

Doesn't seem to be anything unusual, but I've never looked for this sort of thing before. You can see the melted PLA all over the threads.

Re: EZstruder "backslip" problem?

After recalibrating for the filament diameter and running a test print, noted that there was melted filament oozing out of the heater block above the nozzle. Shut everything down, disassembled the hot end again , and replaced the no-stick stainless nozzle with a stock 0.4mm brass nozzle. All is well...

Re: EZstruder "backslip" problem?

 Filament was waaaaay under spec at 1.47 mm. Recalibrating appears to be the fix. I could've sworn I checked beforehand... UPDATE: After a test pyramid, made one successful 2-hour print. Next try failed: first layer skirt OK, first layer perimeters OK, first several inside lines OK, then no ex...

Here's the Bowden tube article: http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=11909&p=104777&hilit=chamfer+bowden+tube#p104777 . It sounded like my problem in that I also got a clog a couple of days ago. Machine seems to work OK otherwise. Manual extrusion from MC controls works fine. T...

Re: EZstruder "backslip" problem?

Thanks for the suggestions. Tried both and seemed to eliminate the skipping, but didn't change the under-extrusion. Thought I found the answer in the discussions on chamfering the end of the Bowden tube. Looked promising, made a couple of calibration pyramids that almost came out OK, but ultimately ...

EZstruder "backslip" problem?

Rostock Max v2. E3D hot end, EZstruder, Repetier 92.2 firmware, printing PLA at 210 deg C. Printer was working well the last 6 weeks, until I started a new roll of PLA - brand new, so that shouldn't be the issue. I don't know what to call this other than "backslip", so that's what I'll cal...

So much for following the instructions. Flipped the plate, recalibrated, and all is well. I guess I keep forgetting that these printers are not appliances yet. Thanks to all for the tip. Back to printing!

Ball-cup arm clearance from print bed?

Hello! 'm running a Rostock Max V2, ball-joint arm upgrade, with E3D hot end. Just replaced hot end. While calibrating, I noticed that the bottom ends of the arms that hold the hot end mounting plate are not the same distance from the print bed when the nozzle is in print position... see the pic. Re: Extruder Musings

Can you define your length and speed for "fast" retraction? I tried doing a 20 mm retraction during a test (not sure what the speed was, but I think it was the default) and got a clogged hot end.

Re: Extruder Musings

I'm also having problems with PLA stringing. Installing an extruder fan won't help that problem - I've got one installed for a different reason. I was having problems with PLA getting too warm at the EZStruder and fouling around the hobbed gear. The fix was to install a 12V fan so it blows air acros...

Retraction values and stringing?

Hello! I'm trying to eliminate a stringing problem. I'm running a MAX v2, MatterControl with Repetier 0.91, PLA @ 178 deg C. I'm trying to print the standard open pyramid. Re: Calibration issue - see picture

Problem solved. Tyler at MatterHackers suggested that my X and Y endstops were set too high. Lowering them by turning the adjustment screws about a half turn CCW solved the problem and the MAX is back to work. Thanks Tyler!

Calibration issue - see picture

Hello! I'm running a Max v2 with .91 firmware. I've got the heights of everything adjusted so all looks great at the towers and at at the center. But there's an area where the hot end is, for lack of a better term, "pulling up" off the bed just enough to screw up larger prints. See the att...

OK to wire EZStruder fan in series with PEEK fan?

I'm running a Max v2, and I have that nagging problem with the EZStruder stepper motor getting warm enough to make PLA squish up next to the hobbed gear. So I'm going to install a 40mm cooling fan (and likely a heat sink) on the EZStruder motor as several people have suggested. I'd rather not have t...

Re: Printer loses USB connection to computer?

Main reason I'm still using a PC - it's our "old" one that no one in the house uses anymore, so it gets to be our "3D Printer Server." One of my colleagues at the office recommended going the SD card route also. BTW, turning off the sleep mode did the trick. Prints go on for hour...

Printer loses USB connection to computer?

New problem: The Max v2 is losing its USB connection to the PC, which stops the print job in-progress. The hot end doesn't move from its last position and I get a glob of melted filament at that point - so saving the print and restarting from that point won't work. This has happened the last two pri...

Re: How-to: Thermistor calibration

This is great work. When I first measured our new Max v2, the thermistor-reported temp and the actual temp were 20+ deg C apart... which I think explains why my first ABS prints came out bubbly. After following the procedure, the reported temp is now within 2.5 deg C of the actual temp at the high e...

Re: PEEK fan installation causes temp error on Max v2?

My local supplier (thank you, Vetco) has exactly those thermistors in-stock - swapped the leads and tested it in the circuit and all appears to be well. So it's time to rebuild the hot end! In a couple of months, I plan to replace this hot end with the E3D all-metal one - I never did like the idea o...

Re: PEEK fan installation causes temp error on Max v2?

All the wiring looks OK. Pulled the thermistor connector out of the Rambo board and measured - should be what, 100K? I'm getting 250 ohms. So maybe the thermistor's blown. That explains the high temp reading without trying to heat the hot end. Bed temp reporting looked OK. There's a local electronic...
