Giving 3D printed parts a shiny smooth finish
Saw this article and figured I'd pass it on. I haven't tried it and it's going to be a while since my build is on hold. http://hackaday.com/2013/02/26/giving-3d-printed-parts-a-shiny-smooth-finish/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+hackaday%2FLgoM+%28Hack+a+Day%29 Th...

Re: ONYX is back!
Highcooley, my guess is that you're just not looking for the right thing. RTV stands for "Room Temperature Vulcanizing" and the stuff you are looking for is typically referred to as "gasket maker". I did a quick search on the first UK auto parts store that came up when I Googled ...

Re: Rostock max making objects....
And once more this time in Ultimachine Green PLA I've spent no time tuning the PLA setting, it's basically the same settings, but with the temperature set to 200 hotend, 60 bed. For cooling I have 120mm fan to one side of the bed sitting on top of a 3 inch riser, running at 50% for the entire print...
RUMBA
There isn't an "Other" forum, so I figured I'd post this in here. I just happened to stumble upon this Inidegogo project from RepRapDiscount (maker of the LCD display unit). From what I can tell, it does more than the RAMBo and at a lower price: http://www.indiegogo.com/rumba RUMBA (R.epra...

Re: Build Plate Materials
Thanks, I guess the heated bed cycles to maintain temperature? That makes sense on why people don't typically use aluminum. I still might try parchment paper once I build my printer just because it is cheap and readily available. Of course, I guess ABS juice would be pretty cheap too.

Build Plate Materials
I've seen a lot of people use plastic or glass build plates covered with painter's tape or kapton tape, but I haven't seen much discussion of why. For the plate material, what makes a material good/bad? I would think that a conductor like aluminum would be better than an insulator for getting an eve...

Re: Fan Mount?
I saw this thread that might help. It's for a 50mm fan, but you might be able to mod it.

Newbie in MD
Hi everybody, I got permission from the boss (wife ;) ) to build a 3D printer and I'm going for the Rostock Max. I plan to build it in pieces over a few months time. So far, I got the t-slot bars, nuts, and screws because I got an awesome deal on eBay ($32 shipped for all of it). Next will be the la...
