Re: Dinosaurs Build a Rostock Max V2 in Alaska

Hi cdub! Sorry for the slow response! I've gotten lazy at checking the forum. Yes, please post questions to the forum. Even if I'm not the one to answer first, there's a community of comprehensively knowledgeable people here to help. This Rostock 2 is still doing fantastic prints, to the point where...

Re: Messy print

This is going to sound terrible, but the best advice I have is to be willing to try lots of different software settings and not get frustrated. But I've never had "don't get frustrated" be useful advice for me... Per mhackney's advice , I've been using the Prusa version of Slic3r lately an...

Re: Messy print

Hi! What slicer software are you using, and with what settings? It looks like your first layer height is okay, or maybe just a bit high? That doesn't look like a mechanical problem to me. My first guess is that the slicing software is having a hard time with the small gaps and the gcode it's produci...

Re: 1.2 mm Volcano + trimmer line

That progression of improved prints is pretty impressive for using trimmer line! Have you tried any other slicers? I've found print quality issues are really worth investigating different slicer outputs to try different available options or compare bugs/artifacts. (I'm personally using slic3r prusa ...

Re: 1.2 mm Volcano + trimmer line

Hmm, looks under-extruded, plus that's a pretty small test print for such a big nozzle. I'd start by checking that cura knows the filament thickness, then check the filament travel distance in the extruder is as expected, then do a thin wall print to see how close the wall is to the expected thickne...

Re: Rebuild on Rostock Max V2 questions

I made a mount for my Duet WIfi screen to mount in place of the stock one for the RAMBo screen. It's medium crappy, but I'll get it posted. There were a couple on Thingiverse, but they were bulkier than I'd prefer.

Re: Artemis or Rostock MAX v4

To a degree, when you talk about "upgrades," it sounds like the new machines have all the most popular upgrades (metal frame, 32 bit controller, FSR, simplified wire routing), or better (linear rails) already. That's very cool. The only downside I see for SeeMeCNC is that I'm still really ...

Re: Artemis or Rostock MAX v4

Wow, that machine really does look amazing. All metal frame and linear rails... What about a PEI print surface, though? Would that be okay with the new autolevel? I'm glad every day I don't need to mess with a glue stick or bed adhesion slurry. The only other thing I can think of changing might be g...

Re: Upgrade Option Questions

ESD killed my RAMBo :( so I replaced it with a Duet Wifi. The major difference I encountered was the microstepping drivers make the motors much, much quieter. Now the hurricane fans in the Meanwell power supply are by far my noisiest part. I never used the autolevel on the RAMBo, so I can't compare ...

Re: Squishy handle.???

I agree with IMBoring25: printing a second part is one way to keep the hot end busy and let each layer cool some. How many seconds per layer are you seeing for the upper layers? That top looks pretty tiny and easy to print too fast. You can also try using a slicer that will automatically let you slo...

Re: I cannot figure out PETG . . . please help

Okay, I haven't messed with mattercontrol in a while. What are your speed settings? (I'm mostly switched to the Prusa fork of Slic3r right now, but it seems like everyone switches slicers periodically as their needs or frustration levels dictate.)

Re: I cannot figure out PETG . . . please help

The print speed is purely a function of your slicer settings. What slicer are you using?

I the slicer absolutely refuses to do the speeds you want, in the worst case, you can open the g-code and change the F____ speed parameter for the movements you care about. Hopefully it doesn't come to that.

Re: Thinking about buying this printer, would like the communities feedback on it

I bought a V2 and have been following the improvements on the V3: Here's some thoughts: extremely slow to heat bed I also found the V2 bed was slow to heat, but they provide a better power supply in the V3. However, if you want to run over 90C, it'll be slow and hard to get to 110. The heated bed on...

Re: 24V: The other way

Related to the 24V upgrade and making up your own solutions: the dinosaurs haven't posted pictures in a while, but they're making great progress on moving the 24V power supply to an external metal enclosure. Since the LED-power-supply-style wiring doesn't fully enclose the AC leads in their own grou...

I would not understand why anyone would go an untested route while a fully tested and much used alternative is available. Fun! We're all using DIY/amateur machines and trying out new things here. True, 99% of the time my ideas aren't as good as what someone else has done, but each time I learn some...

That's nice! I pathologically change printer parts, so wiring changes are pretty common despite my best attempts at putting Connnectors Everywhere. It's hard to keep the braided loom from fraying at the ends. I'll try that wrap!

Re: Berd Air Max v2 Motor Running Hot

Mine's running pretty hot to the touch, too. I haven't measured the temperature because it's not melting anything. I'll check it with the crappy IR thermometer on the next long print and let you know what my imprecise measurement gets. (Other than yet another reminder to set up a good thermocouple.)...

A first try with Bronzefill. 0.25mm nozzle. It actually shines up pretty well if you finish with a buffing tool!

There's been quite a few successes with RAMBo and dual extrusion posted in this forum. Here's a writeup from when the dinosaurs got it working in late 2015. At the time, a change was needed for pins.h. That post has links to other posts, and github for changed/configured files. I don't know if that'...

Zesty Nimble on 713Maker Mount NinjaFlex First Print

Just got the Zesty Nimble up and running on a V2 with 713Maker effector plate and mount, Berd-Air, IR Probe and E3D V6. It's not remotely tuned yet, but everything seems to be working together and the first try at a Ninjaflex print was successful. Go Dinosaurs! [img]http://gchristopher.net/3dprintin...

Hi! What kind of advice are you looking for? i.e. what do you mean by "to have printed?" Are you looking to have another single prototype printed, or are you trying to plan for mass-production of an object? Or did you mean something else entirely?
