Not a stupid question! I have the same question, but I am little confused on the solution, perhaps you could clarify for me? So far I've had the best most consistent results with Octave filament. (Plus, they're in Northern California, so I usually get it in two days.) Their ABS filament seems to handle temperature fluctuations really well, with minimal swelling during temp swings. I've recently been trying out ToyBuilder...

I would bet the big boys (stratasys & 3dsystems) are protective over the commercial market. My work (Aerospace Engineering) has a stratasys printer that with most of those design requirements, just no open source equipment. Its interesting to see the clear line drawn between the consumer market ...
