Re: H-1.1 STL Files?
Yeah, the modified carriage assemblies are specifically what I'm looking for; they look much easier to print than the H1.0 parts -- most of the H1.0 parts are pretty ridiculous to print, and require a lot of modifications and clean-ups. The parts of the H-1.1 that changed looked a lot simpler and ea...

H-1.1 STL Files?
Hey guys, It's getting to that point where I need to start printing some replacement parts for my H-1.0 -- and I was thinking that while I was at it, I might try printing some of the H-1.1 upgrade parts. Problem is, I can't seem to find the STLs for any of the H-1.1 parts -- does anyone know where t...

Re: The UPGRADED beast that never dies
Thanks for posting this! -- I was an original backer too, and the printer is indeed a tank! -- Mine has turned into a repstrap of sorts because some of the original injection molded parts are so annoying to print. -- I'm currently looking at reprinting some of the extruder / hot-end stuff, and conve...

Re: Recommend a new hot end for my H-1.0?
The H1 was my first printer, I replaced it with a Mendal Max 1.5, and then went on this phase where I pretty much designed and built printers using every X/Y/Z mechanism I thought might be interesting to try. About half way through that the Rostock Max was on Kickstarter, and I purchased one. I hav...

Re: Recommend a new hot end for my H-1.0?
The hotends.com JHead is the original slot mounted hotend, I like them, I own 3 of them, two 1.75mm and a 3mm, for printing PLA they are hard to beat. I have several E3D's, and I didn't have good luck with them, I have one V5 and a Kraken which are great hotends, but I also have a V4 and a V5 which...

Re: Recommend a new hot end for my H-1.0?
I can't remember how the H1 hotend is mounted, but you will minimally need some sort of adapter if you go with any hotend that isn't like the original. You might want to take a picture of the existing mount and post it here. Usually I'd print an adapter, but you'll have to be more inventive. Yeah, ...

Re: Recommend a new hot end for my H-1.0?
I've heard some bad things about bodens, like they ooze a lot more than regular extruders, etc.
Do you know of anyone that has modded their H1 for a boden setup and posted about it? -- Would be interesting to see what they came up with.

Recommend a new hot end for my H-1.0?
So, I broke the damn thing... I tried to print PLA with no cooling, and well... it sprung a leak is the best way to put it -- didn't visibly damage anything that I could see, but plastic is oozing out of it from somewhere... -- switched back to ABS, and it's still oozing. Took it apart, and well.. i...

Nice. Looks like I'm not the only one who waited until 2014 to put their printer together. :-) -- guess it's 2015 now -- and well... the printer part was together... still toying with the damn thing anyways... I actually assembled most of it when I got it -- found it was missing several parts as wel...

Re: Printing with Wood!
It says "Parts printed with Laywood have about the same properties as parts printed with PLA filament." but then goes on to explain the coloring feature, so I can't vouch for the accuracy of that statement... Another property I know is different is the price! It's $20/.5 kg !!! in addition...

If you're worried about backlash with gears, have you considered using a Herringbone gear? All the cool kids are using them.

Re: Replacing the Z-Axis rods?
As I said, Home Depot is where I bought the first replacement rods that were all janky, though, cutting the nut while they're on the rod sounds like a *great* idea! How did you cut it? I've got a miter box, but I think I'd need a really strong saw to cut through them.

That sounds extremely painful... what would you use it for anyway? You can pretty much do chemical welding of ABS with acetone.

Printing with Wood!
It's a new wood fiber filament called "Laywood", looks like you can vary the shade (light to dark) by changing the extruder temperature, not exactly color mixing but opens the door to neat possibilities for printing patterned objects. http://hackaday.com/2012/09/21/3d-printer-filament-made...

Re: New Builder with a few questions
I remember with the H-1 they posted a CAD model of some kind, and you could download a program and rotate the whole thing around and look at all the parts and stuff -- it was kind of a pain in the ass to use though and it really, sucked, so I just forgot about my printer for six months -- and then g...

Re: New Builder with a few questions
Oh, it sounds like you're building the H-1.1 going from the H1's instructions. I don't have an H-1.1 but, I mean, just from the pictures, you can see that those pieces aren't there -- they've replaced the bearings with something newer and more betterer -- it's my understanding that this is the main ...

Weird Craig's List CNC Machine I picked up...
So, meanwhile, I stumbled onto a neat Cartesian robot from craigslist -- and bought it -- I'll post some pictures when I get a chance. -- It's super weird and unique -- it has an acrylic tank that the head moves around in, and a drain -- presumably it can be filled with water (no tooling mounted -- ...

Re: Broken Heating resistors!
It's my understanding that the bigger heating resistors (like the ones we're using in the H-1) are just made from tightly wrapped nichrome wire . And since you can just use nichrome wire to heat stuff, I don't see why not? But do it at your own risk. A couple tips, for one, I'd wrap the thing back t...

Re: Adhesive for assembling hot end.
Glue it back in, and throw some Kapton tape over it for good luck.Unfortunately the thermistor popped out of its hole rather easily after I got done temperature testing.
I'm going to have to re-think my thermistor mount.

Re: 50mm Fan Mount for Steve's Extruder
Nice! Is this for PLA, or is it useful for ABS too?
I'm thinking about wrapping my print head with some ceramic insulation tape from Ultimachine (it's rated for ~2.3K° F). Would I need to remove the tape and add a fan to print in PLA?

Re: Phebe HeatBed not getting up to temperature
How many watts is your PSU rated for on the 12V rails? How many watts are you trying to draw from them? (in DC, W(atts) = V(olts) * A(mps). A = V ÷ R(esistance). So for 2.6 ohms of resistance @ 12.25V, you're sourcing ~56.5 watts for each 12V trace (~113 watts total if you're running them in paralle...

Re: Z-axis problems. Bent lead screws & Belt slips off pulle
I went through a lot of trouble replacing all kinds of things, trying to figure out why the Z-axis rods had wobble in them (to be clear, one did have wobble, the other did not, it was clearly visible, and when the belt was properly tensioned you could clear a clicking noise at regular intervals as t...

Re: Hotend assembly tutorial
Actually I shorted my thermistor out on purpose and it didn't heat up at all for some reason. Of course, as I said, the lower* the resistance is, the hotter the board thinks the current temp is -- so a short (a resistance of zero), would think that your hot end was insanely hot already, and would t...
