Re: Heatbed to 24V Question

Old thread, but figured I would chime in:
http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=55&t=5406

It covers just about everything on 24VDC conversions for the heated bed.

Re: Printing ABS to plastic sheet? [NO!!!] (See updated post

I finally got around to ordering some ABS sheets. I ordered 20 of the 12"x12"x0.118" I believe. I was thinking I was running into a not hot enough for the sheet, but hot enough for the ABS filament. I want to test ABS on ABS, not unknown styrene on ABS.

For me this may justify a second machine to put this on.

I am saving up my milk money! Or is it beer money?...

Very cool! "STOP ADVERTISING HERE I HATE YOU!" Cause I ain't got the money to buy this yet, and I WANT IT! ;) This is seriously very cool and the more options for extruders for 3D printing the better. I assume the electronics will need an upgrade to handle 3 extruders on a Rostock Max V2?

Re: Dive gear

You can use a plastic soda bottle as a single use silencer. You can also use a car oil filter for a multiuse silencer. Make sure you cover your tank silencer if you are going full bore. That will probably throw some good shrapnel if it blows. Also, you might be able to calculate the PSI versus the o...

Re: 3d printing is bad for your health?

3D printing IS bad for your health. It causes you to spend way too much time sitting in a hunched position glued to the screen. This is caused by searching hundreds of websites that have free 3D models that you can print. You stay up to all hours watching your prints and arching your back while rubb...

could you drill small holes in to your base material and then press fit your other parts
That is another good option.

Re: Models to Blueprints

Cubify Design can read a lot of 3D formats and has an entire 3D to 2D drawing system built in. It is $200 for the complete package. I have read in Pro Engineer files into Cubify and it worked very well. I have not used the 2D side much, but I know it is there. There is a trial period so you can test...

Re: Printing ABS to plastic sheet? [NO!!!] (See updated post

I tried a universal ABS/PVC solvent and it does not bind to the styrene. It eats the ABS though. I wonder what the heck is in this plastic. Maybe I don't want to know...

I have not tried increasing the heat, but that is next.

Re: Printing ABS to plastic sheet? [NO!!!] (See updated post

Yeah, I was going to try hiking up the temp. I tried it 235, I think I will push 250 maybe and try going slower on the first layer. That should increase the heat on that layer and make it "linger" to melt the styrene. I love the idea of dipping too low to force it to melt into the material...

Re: Your opinion on Patents

1) I actually have not yet seen any patent abuse for 3D printing. I thought there might be some overly broad ones, but after reading them and seeing how easy they are to defeat I am not all that concerned. 2) Off the top of my head the material these guys designed definitely needs a patent on it. 3)...

Re: Printing ABS to plastic sheet?

I had some "styrene" from a hobby store I purchased a while back. I figured it would work for a good test. It is quite possibly ABS to begin with, but the packaging does not say. The bonding of the plastic seems to be very good. I had to use ABS slurry to make the styrene stay on the heate...

Printing ABS to plastic sheet? [NO!!!] (See updated post)

I was going to post in troubleshooting, but I was not sure if that was the correct place. Anyway, I am making some modular enclosures and they are turning out to be just a flat piece of plastic with features printed onto the major pieces. The bottom, sides, and top are all separate pieces. I was thi...

Re: Does anyone actually read the patents?

Please, read the patent and don't conjecture what is in there. Only the independent claims matter, and if those apply then the dependent claims matter. The rest of the text of the patent is just background information and are not claims. Nothing in the claims even mentions belts, motors, etc. Only o...

Re: Does anyone actually read the patents?

The independent claims basically state the "gantry system" is isolated from the build chamber. If the gantry system (even partially) is inside the build chamber then you avoid the patent altogether.

Does anyone actually read the patents?

Does anyone actually read the patents? Every independent claim in this patent specifies the gantry system being isolated from and external to the heated build environment. So putting ANY kind of 3D printer "inside" a chamber designed to control temperature completely avoids this patent. Th...

I am heating the bed and ...

Good move! Same thing at our company. We pretty much don't say anything about anything in our systems. If we do patent it is for defensive reasons mostly.
