Re: Crashing Z axis

What your doing is correct, they only thing I will add is sometimes on my system it "hiccups" (technical term) and it doesn't take the setting and I have to do it again. I usually do a double check manually using the front panel knob to make sure it's set. And I always write down my z numb...

3DimMaker new slicer

Found this in my travels, not tested. They have a free version and a paid pro version which has more bells and whistles. Wonder how it compares? When I get some time I'll d/l and test it and see what it can do. At least they have a free version to test ;) Shameless jab at that "other" soft...

Re: S3D version 3.0 is out

I just have to chime in here with this S3D stuff. I am just shocked these guys are still in business. They don't provide a trial. They piss people off who pay their bills by buying their product. They offer help by making you wait for an upgrade to their buggy software, what do you do in the meantim...

Re: Best practices for changing nozzles?

Heat up nozzle to temperature of material being used. Back out filament from hot nozzle. Cool down. (Not really necessary if you use a socket wrench but I don't like to burn my fingers.) Using wrench on body to hold in place put another wrench on nozzle and remove. Install new nozzle Heat up nozzle ...

I would suggest you try your hand at soldering something else first then tackle that tiny wire.

If your close to Orange County, Calif bring it over and I'll solder it for you.

Re: Using a 9 connection circuit plug for hot end

You could consider using what I used on my orion. Computer power supply connector for hot end. Already wired just cut the wire and soldered together then heat shrink tubing over. I used the smaller connectors for the thermistor and the fans. Not as clean as 1 connector but still easy to remove the h...

Re: PEI not exactly flat, do I sand it?

Flip it over and check.
Short answer is yes but lap it onto a flat surface instead of trying to locally remove the bump. You could just make it worse.

What slicer are you using?
There are some programs out there (free) that you can run your gcode to simulate before you hit run.

Re: Filament stuck in hot end

I have had to use a torch to loosen things up and then clear a clog. The fastest method I have used is take the hot end off the machine and heat it up and use a wire the size of your nozzle and clear it. Also for the cold end I have a set of drill plugs that are sized while heating things up run it ...

Re: Restarting print after freeze

The biggest problem is the head moves away from the print area.
If the machine would just STOP and not move. plus start cooling down the head and bed it would be much easier to resume.
In theory it should work like a cnc machine when you hit stop, you can easily resume where it left off.

Funny when this was first posted and I looked at their kick-starter page I was thinking of same name snap printer. (Failed kick-starter I ordered before buying the orion) I am always the optimist but I see fail written all over this. They hide too many things. I agree with a big team they might pull...

My box arrived today in California where it's been around 80 ish degrees. We skipped winter here and went right into springishsummertime :) Humidity still runs ~70% in the shop. Spooling off some nylon and into the vacuum chamber to get it started. Appreciate the kind offer KAS this is great stuff! ...

Re: Trouble shooting connection

My backup is Repetier but MC seems to be whacky. The baud settings change by themselves after I save them to match. I had luck when setting MC to not auto connect and then manually connect. This new version I never did get it to run the machine but the manual settings work so it indeed is connected....

Trouble shooting connection

Here is the problem. MC ran okay and then I upgraded. The file setting are hidden somewhere since I did remove the program and reinstall. It remembers my old settings. I can connect and open the terminal and home the machine. The extruder and bed will heat up manually. I slice a part and set everyth...

Re: BBP controller board kickstarter launch

Not even looking at the page but to make claims is one thing. Build a printer around your new board and SHOW what it can do. I have moved my delta in NON print moves at ~ 300mm/s and there is no way it would print at that speed. Not saying it couldn't be done but just replacing a board isn't going t...

Re: Clogged E3D Nozzle

I have used a torch to just melt the plastic away and then clean out the nozzle carefully with the right size wire. Be careful and do this a couple of times. Regarding getting your E3D to print nice it does require a bit of "tweaking" You have to be meticulous just like everything else wit...

Re: Sketchup I Inventor objects to .stl

You need a plug in for Sketchup to stl
Look here:
https://extensions.sketchup.com/en/content/sketchup-stl

And yes inventor will offer a drop down menu to save directly to stl.
