Re: Installing the resistors to the hot end.
I just went thru my original resistors ( 9 months of daily operation - 6-10hrs daily of printing).. Was pleasantly surprised they lasted that long. However, RTV is a terrible thermal conductor. Yes, it's 10x's better than air... But it's still terrible.. I've been considering putting some RTV on one...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
honestly i don't think folks are going to ever have to reapply the PEI... Mine is down "permanently" - especially after it's baked on for 40 or 50 prints! In my opnion the most difficult part of this is simply getting the PEI cut properly, so it doesn't stick over the edge.. I got lazy, fo...

Reel problems
Dunno if anybody else has had this issue... I've had issues (when doing large prints) of having the layer fan hitting either the reel mount, or the extrusion motor. Sometimes I could remove the layer fan (it's not used in the first later or two anyway, and I can slide it manually - but that's a pain...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
bret4, I use .030" PEI, used 3/4" wide tape and have NO issues with lines or other issues in the parts. I've not checked in here for some time, but I took Mhackney's advice and did this months ago. It's been GREAT. Out of 200-250 prints over the past 2 months, I think I've had only one or...

Re: Why is my Orion making sploogies??
I replaced the PTC's AND the feed tube. SeeMeCNC sent me a slightly longer tube, which I clipped down, but left aabout 8" longer than their original, and (IMHO) its better.. it doesn't bend nearly as much when the head is retracted, and gives a far more graceful loop for the filament to travel...

Re: build failure on super long builds
When I pulled it out of the box from SeeMeCNC, it hat a tiny little 'squiggly' of plastic hanging off the end.. I'm guessing it got broken off when they were packing, and somebody didn't notice... Guess I shoulda figured that out 4 months ago, eh!? Probably wasn't broken off... http://repables.com/...

Re: Walls of printed layer fan too thick?
Ha! Funny you mention that.. you're right, I think... I needed that fan (today!), and printed it, only to figure out the same... I was going to just re-print it 2% larger (scale in Slic3r) but I got impatient and enlarged it a bit with a Dremel... works well! I've finished building my Rostock MAX v2...

That fan shroud is /literally/ missing the "shroud" part. Try this one: http://repables.com/r/171/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Also, make sure that the PEEK fan is operating properly and no broken. g. well now... that makes way much more sense.. When I pulled ...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
Don't use silicone, that failed for me after a few weeks. The 3M double sided tape is the way to go. Maybe it's me - maybe I just got lucky... I bought the 12"x12" 3M tape listed earlier on this thread - from Amazon.. It went on perfectly, very few issues, and I've been exceedingly please...

Re: Auto-Calibration - $100 Bounty and Bragging Rights
I'm not going to get anywhere near it until they've got the code ported to Repetier (it's in Marlin now). I'm not taking 100 steps back just to get something I can do by hand. :) g. I'm a bit with you, although (it seems to me)this really needs to become soemthing that's integrated into the control...

build failure on super long builds
Anybody with an Orion got some ideas on this? I've been chasing a bit of an issue, and not really sure what's going on. I'm doing rather large items (say a 5" cylinder which is around 2" tall and about 25% full of plastic!), so it's generally a 8-10hr run. I'm running VERY SLOW (15-20mm/s)...

Re: New Orion parts replacement
As Guano wrote above, page 25 of the Orion's user guide tells how to calibrate the Onyx. He did a great job in writing it so that it is understandable and it works really well. Follow that procedure and your platform should be level with the bed, the entire bed. Edit: Make sure you get the 2nd revi...

Re: Auto-Calibration - $100 Bounty and Bragging Rights
Depends on the problem you're trying to solve with this autocalibration. Accounting for a non-planar bed (warped, curved, whatever) is pointless because what we're trying to print is flat. So a non-planar bed could only be corrected for by printing a raft which fits the bed on the bottom and is fla...

Re: Issues with hot end hitting object as it prints
Awesome! Thanks, that has corrected the issue. I've tried to use the Mac version of Repetier, but I haven't been able to get it to connect to the printer. I selected the usbmodemfd1311 in the Printer Settings but it doesn't respond. There isn't any drivers, correct? Doesn't it have an SD slot? if s...

Re: Config file repository for Slic3r with Taulman Bridge?
on a tangent, what head does SeemeCNC use on the Orion? (ie., what temp is it capable of?) The same temps as the Rostock Max. Maximum temperature of approximately 240c for prolonged printing. Any hotend that is not all metal has the same approximate temperature limitations because they rely on peek...

Re: PEI print bed surface experiments
i printed at 50c, then i forgot so it had totally cooled when i tried to remove My experience on this has been that I'll do a "quick settings->Preheat ABS", let it warm up for 10-15, then let it cool off agaain, and it'll usually pop off easily with no damage. I have generally never done ...

I got an email last night from Taulman:
Melting (Soft) Temp: 217
Print Temp: 242
Bed (Platform) Temp: 30-60
that's a lot hotter than I was expecting!

Ok so i just did some NINJAFLEX....wow BIG PITA to get this off the PEI when printed on directly. ................................ i had to man handle these and slide a razor blade underneath... maybe print a raft first if you have to put the flex on the bottom I'm curious - what was your bed temp ...

Good quality vs bad quality PLA?
So I have been blowing thru so much filament (2-4 rolls/week), I've been getting a bit slack on my quality checks. and it caught up with me.. A couple of "justpla" brand (off Amazon) -- talk about some junky stuff! It "goo's" up on the bed, doeesn't stick for anything, and gets a...

Re: Why oh why can't I get ABS to stick?!
I'd like to do the PEI bed, but I'm broke. On friday my water heater decided to split and soak a portion of my basement. I tried finding that Aquanet hairspray since so many people recommend using it, but I went to a couple stores and nobody seems carry it. Print bed was always clean and there are ...

Re: Why oh why can't I get ABS to stick?!
I would very much recommend considering the PEI. In fact, i'm so pumped at the quality, i'm getting quotes on it in bulk, to offer it pre-adhered to a glass (or aluminum) disc, so folks can grab at a decent price point. Seriously, the $100 spent on PEI is the equivalent of buying a new printer. It's...

Config file repository for Slic3r with Taulman Bridge?
Anybody got a good config that they're using for Taulman's new "Bridge" filament? I'm running a bunch of PLA, but am considering a couple reels of Bridge to see how it handles.. I've got some product development needs which are requiring some substantial tensile & shear strength, and a...
