Re: Anyone else still rocking the original Rostock Max?
@DeltaCon - Naturally, I meant upgrading away from the original RMax to the 2.0, 3.0, artemis etc :) Agreed on Facebook. I got off it a few months ago, the signal to noise ratio was horrendous, but when I start digging through forums again it's a little depressing how most of them now resemble ghost...

Anyone else still rocking the original Rostock Max?
Back from a bit of a break and doing some upgrades, and the original Rostock Max forum is looking very quiet. Has everyone upgraded away or are the machines just steadily getting on with their unremarkably consistent performance? I've added an enclosure, switched out to an E3D v6 head and have a PEI...

MatterControl 2.0 Beta
Hi all Been a long time since I visited - my printer was settled in and being used, abused and neglected like a red headed apprentice so not much to report. I've built an enclosure which is working great and I'm waiting on a water cooled E3D chimera head to try some snappy PLA support for ABS fun ti...

Re: Need a filament fix - where?
Last year sometime? I haven't been using the printer much and had stocked up, so it came as a bit of a surprise when it was all closed up. Speaking with him, seemed the payback wasn't there for the crazy hours it was chewing out of his life to keep the site and customers well supported and he moved ...

Need a filament fix - where?
Sadly, now that McSlappy has McSlapped the doors closed at DoDadDoes and moved onto other projects, I find myself in search of a new dealer for the good stuff.
Any recommendations for an Aussie supplier of halfway decent ABS and Nylon filaments?

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
Every time I see an email from <support@seemecnc.com> I get a little excited as I click the link. This is pretty much the only thread I'm subscribed to nowadays, so I know what's coming - and once again you've not disappointed with your teasing. :D Not something I'd have ever thought of using those ...

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
Very encouraging. Be interesting to see how it goes when loaded up and again after a few tens of hours' wear but then, of course, it's pretty easy to replace the plastic slide if it gets worn, yes?

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
As always, you've thought it through. And yeah, compromises :-/ Like I said 3 screws isn't a major PITA though and it keeps things simple, rigid and good.
Looking forward to reading the magic runout numbers when it's built.

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
Looks good and meaty. Guess it will always be a tradeoff between convenience / speed of switching chucks vs strength and runout. I kinda like my SEIG's screw on chucks just because it doesn't become a major operation every time I change over. I do change frequently, from 3 to 4 jaw and less often to...

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
I was hoping it'd be something like that on the "thin" cross section :) I'm seriously wishing you all the best with the ATC design, most reservations come from the primary thought "If it were that simple, why's everyone messing around with pull studs and claws and bellevue washers and...

Not too confusing at all. My cheapo chinese 24000rpm spindle has an ER-20 collet chuck and, like pretty much everyone else, I've thought about a compact ATC mechanism that doesn't cost a fortune. Having a tapered entry (for self alignment) "spanner" form that I could lock the collet nut in...

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
I wondered if you were watching the whole o-drive thing unfold when you were talking about batteries before - it's a tidy solution by the looks of it. An ER-20 option would be great (says the guy who has already standardises on ER-20 on three machines in the shed :) ) Not sure how much added value y...

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
There are two CNC machinists at work. One on his old Bridgeports with their burnt-in CRT consoles, the other with shiny new Haas machines. The old-timer does EVERYTHING conversationally from dimensioned drawings using the Bridgeport language. He reckons he can set it up to trickle feed g-code from a...

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
I dunno. With Fusion 360 now offering a fairly sane (and free for hobbyists) 5 axis CAM system including mill and turn operations, I think it's become a lot more readily available than it was before. Of course, creating the post processor file for it will be a bit of a challenge. Users might struggl...

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
I'll admit I was only commenting on the basis of half heard comments about Kickstarter from the friend of a friend, so it might not be that bad. Interesting to hear another perspective on the Skyfire saga, I know Iain at least sounded supremely happy with how it all worked out. Other funding alterna...

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
Also worth considering how much the kickstarter is going to eat out of your potential funding, I get the impression from a few who've written about the experience that they ended up with a lot, lot less than they were expecting by the time the proverbial pound of flesh was extracted. I also think th...

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
No lathe fun times for the bore on these? Or at least a boring head to keep things coaxial? I guess if the plan is to flog kits ie make a few of them it's not just a case of knocking one out but of also working out how to most efficiently get good results. I'm liking the photos. You look like you ha...

Re: DIY Mill Turn Center
Impressive. That's a lot beefier & bigger than the pics / drawings suggest. I didn't get a sense of scale and the green got me thinking "oh, similar to the PocketCNC or the taig micro stuff". Nope, sounds about the same ball park as my SIEG AL60 and X2 which I've found of great utility...

Shiny. Real shiny! I take it that the plastic gib on box ways concept is still going well for you? Let's have some specs - work envelope, max tool sizes, spindle power, etc etc etc. Also if I bought/built something like this is there an option for a third or replacement X carriage to do more traditi...
